I'm just 100% curious what everyone else thinks...

I keep hearing women who claim they were in labor for 36+ hours, and maybe they really were but I'm thinking they consider the start of labor when they had their first contraction. I've had painless BH since I was 30 weeks along and since Tuesday I've had very painful contractions. Here's the thing though, even though I can time them I don't count them as labor since if I went to the hospital I'd be sent home. IMO labor starts when you would be able to be admitted (5-1-1 : contractions 5 min apart, lasting 1 min, for over an hour). When do you think labor starts?

(and yes I'm typing this while in extreme pain)

No drama please, I'm just wondering :D

I consider timeable painful contractions that are regular to be labor....anything before is pre-labor to me

When you say timeable do you mean any length of time? Mine have been 10-20 min apart since Tues and then last night they were 5-7 min apart but since they keep changing I don't count them.

yeah like...when I was in labor with DD1, mine didn't get REALLY painful till Sunday(night) before I had her (Tuesday Morning)...before that I was in pre-labor...but real labor is when they stay consistent over a long period of time and get closer together..once they get farther apart again is when I know I'm not in labor. Monday morning they were 8 minutes apart, and by the time I went to the hospital they were a minute a half apart (this is my ex's fault he didn't believe me)

PLUS nothing I did stopped them or slowed them...the only thing that really helped was taking a hot shower

Agh gotcha! Thanks for clarifying :)

I wonder if there is an official answer?

I didnt start to count the start of my labor till I got to the hospital which was about 2am, I didnt get checke in till 5am, they had me walk to halls to see if I dilated any, I did so they let me check in, but my labor didnt get painful till I was walking the halls, constractions started at 8pm, they werent really anything painful.

I was in labor admitted for close to 31 hrs. They were 5-1-1 contractions & changing my cervix from about 2 hrs after. They would slow down & not do anything at times which is why I was put on pitocin. Thats when labor was more like 1-1-1 contractions. Lol I actually had 5-1-1 contractions since 32 weeks which is why I left work early. I was also 4 days over due when I was admitted & due to be induced that Thursday (i was admitted midnight Wednesday & he was born at 10:55 Wednesday night)
