Is being induced more painful?? ~Drayvn's Mommy~ 1 child; Arkansas 324 posts

I talked to my dr about induction bc it has a bad rep and wanted more info. He says as long as your cervix is ready for birth (thinned & dilated some) than it's no different than natural labor (as far as getting labor started that is) but Pain wise, I've had women tell me that when you're induced its much more painful & stronger contractions? I'm wanting to induce at my appointment at 40 weeks if I haven't started labor yet bc I live a few hours away from my Dr and don't want something going wrong & not make it to the hospital, but I am a wuss when it comes to pain.

Ive never had a natural labor without being induced..But Ive always heard it makes the contractions come on stronger and quicker together

I wouldn't be induced without a clear medical reason.

Besides the pain, there is so much that can go wrong with an induction

Pitocin makes the contractions more painful. I wouldnt get induced unless it was a medical reason

Could you give me some examples? I don't really know much about induction.

It does intensify contractions because it's forcing your body into labor but there are plenty of people that have had non medicated births with inductions.

it drastically raises the rate of c sections. Bleeding, uterine rupture

you baby being born before it is ready, which can cause your child issues

Do some research on this before you decide. Inductions generally are no picknic.

I had one, it was great. But I was 43 weeks and I medically needed it.

I am a MAJOR wimp so I'll probably opt for SOME form of drug, but I don't want an epidural bc I've had friends tell me they have back problems still from it. They told me some other drug the dr puts in ur iv that helps w/ pain? Idk. I'm going to talk to my dr more about it at my next visit, but didn't think it'd hurt anything getting some opinions.

Pain relief can make baby very sleepy when born so research which drugs you should get

Pain meds can make the baby sleepy and hard to breastfeed. It can even put them in distress

I don't mean to scare you. Just make sure that you read everything and know all of the risks before you decide anything.
