It can cause problems with feeding and speech.

My son was tied. We got it clipped in the OR at 15 months.
The reason why is because if it rips on its own when LO gets to be older, is that not only would it be very painful and bleed a lot, but chances are it would heal and be even tighter than it is in the first place.
I felt it was better to get it done in a controlled environment. We were the first appt in the morning. In and out within two hours (there was an emergency that had to be put before us).
Your Dr. will refer you to an ENT (ear nose throat specialist) if you choose to get it done. Hope that helps.

I personally would wait and bring it up at his next appt. The ENT probably wouldn't clip it until he's a bit older, because it is done in the OR and they use anesthesia. Don't stress about it. It's not an emergency.

My husband, son and I all have the under the tongue tie i guess you could call it. DS and DH are really bad. They can't stick their tongues out past their lips. If it doesn't cause problems then don't worry about it.
