My son is 8 months old, and HUGE (20lbs 12oz-- this was 2 weeks ago @ 7 1/2 months old, I would say he is at least 21 lbs now)! He
I think it has to be 20 pounds AND 1 year old... So i would wait a few months until he is 1 to put him forward facing...
They have to be one year old also.
Well, here it's SUPPOSED to be 1 AND 20 pounds.....but I've turned both my girls around early (**shhh**) I would talk to your son's doctor about it, and see what they say. But I personally don't see a huge problem with it.:?
He is just really tall too, he is a big boy... I don't see his feet being crammed into the back seat as safe. I plan to call the doctor in a little bit when my son is napping (he freaks out when I am on the phone). I just wanted to get some other mommies opinions on it. I am just not sure about the whole matter. My husband brought it up yesterday, so I went online and read all about the specific car seat. My most important issue is for him to be safe.
I asked a state trooper this same question when my son was around 10 months b/c he was already 20 lbs. He said that the child must be 1 year...if you get pulled over they have no way to know how much the child weighs and the law is 1 year and at least 20 lbs. In other words if your 1 year old still isn't 20 lbs then they must still face backwards. I was also told "would you rather have your child have a broken leg from a car crash or dead b/c you turned them too early?". I'm not telling you not to b/c that's your decision, but something to think about. I chose to wait until he was 1.
Thanks for your replies ladies. I think it is just best to keep him rear facing for now after hearing what you had to say. I am going to have to figure out something size wise as far as the car seats go. I have already spent over $500 on car seat, so another car seat is not an option right now. We have a new VW Jetta, so space in the car is sort of limited no matter what car seat size is. I already have to sit with my seat moved all the up.
