ok so friends of the family have this going thru their family, ive never really heard of it, BUT they are throwing our baby shower Saturday!!! What do i do, should i worry about it, their kids and mom have it right now and they all live next door to eachother and are together everyday, so my friend who is throwing the shower doesnt have symptoms yet, but her mom and niece have it, and her sister is helping with the shower. I hope this all makes sense....basically they all live on top of eachother so may all have it and just not showing signs yet...i REALLY dont want my family to get this and im worried about being around them pregnant....help! What do i do???

HFM is highly contagious if they have open blisters/fever (from what I've been told by a dr.)

it's NOT the worst thing to get lol but I sure wouldn't want to get it. kwim?

Idk if there are greater concerns because of pregnancy??
Perhaps you can ask your OB.

THEN if your OB says, "STAY THE f**k AWAY"
you can use that to get yourself off the hook kwim?

Sucks its your shower though:(

I hadn't heard much about it either. My oldest daughter (almost 3) most likely had this about a month ago? She was sick like she had a cold first, and had a low grade fever. Then she got bumps around her bottom lip they were just red mostly. Then she has a breakout on her buttocks. Then I noticed a few around her wrists and then on her fingers and toes....the Dr. never diagnosed it but her speech therapist brought it up and said it's very contagious. It stays in their stool for 2 weeks after symptoms disappear and they can spread it by mouth or if you change a diaper of someone who has it you can get it that way. The bumps eventually went down (weren't puffy anymore) but stayed kinda red and started drying up and peeling on her feet and mouth. I believe she is over it but has been sick pretty bad since then..her and her sister just finished antibiotics. I might cancel if you are worried about it..I know it would be hard especially if it's been planned for a while and all...maybe just keep your hands and your family's hands clean. Maybe ask them to do the same they should understand.

My son was miserable with it. He couldn't eat or drink much because the soars hurt his mouth so bad.
If you can avoid it, definitely do.

i had this when i was a kid its very contagious and you will catch it if they touch you its not very nice to have but try reading this i hope it helps

Hand, foot and mouth disease is rare in healthy adults, so the risk of infection during pregnancy is very low.
If a pregnant woman gets hand, foot and mouth disease, the risk of complications is also very low.
Complications are rare

There is some limited evidence that catching hand, foot and mouth disease during pregnancy may result in miscarriage in very rare cases.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

My younger cousin has hand, foot, and mouth disease her toe nails and finger nails are falling off but thats about it all cases are different though. It depends on how long they've had it, basing on how contagious it may be right now. If they have all been treated, I would'nt worry about catching it.

I was worried my daughter's toenail was going to ..it even got a little yellow and rough looking but it didn't. One of her fingernails have a lot of white streaks across it kinda looks like it's broken and it almost felt like a tiny piece was missing right above the cuticle but it's still there...I sure hope she's over it, it's been a while since she started showing signs....

My daughter had it a little over a year ago, and they quarantined me from her because I have an autoimmune disorder. Either way, it's highly contagious. STAY AWAY from anyone who's been in contact with someone who has HFMD!

My 4 year old had this when she was 2 months old she couldn't. Breastfeed and she had to sleep next to me at all times. It last about a week her throat was swollen with soars in it. It had left scars in her throat and she wasn't able to talk til about a year ago she would just make noises to get what she needed. She was around 5 other kids and none of them got it so. But if u don't feel comfertable going over there just let them know and ask to reset a date for ur baby shower
