Sick toddler, corner of one eye is red? Colt's mommy 1 child; Moore, Oklahoma 22112 posts

He's been sick for about 36 hrs now. Congested nose and a fever (that finally broke this morning, it was 99.2 to 100.2 temporal for about 24 hrs even with ibprofin). I think I noticed the outside of his right eye was red yesterday but it is definitely red this morning still. I'm wondering if this is something he needs to be seen for today at urgent care or if it's something we can wait another day and see if it gets better. There's no puss, it's not watery unless he's crying of course. It doesn't even seem to irritate him. He didn't sleep well last night but so far this morning hasn't had any meds and is playing with his Easter eggs and eating breakfast. I only ask because he's never had this while being sick and I googled it and got mixed opinions. Thanks :)

If you have any artificial tears, use them in his eyes. Otherwise, it'll likely go away with his cold. If you do see mucous, then you might take him to the doctor. (I worked in ophthalmology x 12 years)

It may be pink eye.. I was told congestion can cause it. I wasnt concerned about my son last time he was sick and his eyes were red, he was sick and wasnt sleeping well. But, after like 2 or 3 days I knew it was something else. Id keep an eye on it and take him in if it doesnt go away or starts draining.

I wonder if pink eye would be the whole eye though? It's just the outside corner. I don't know though, I've never dealt with pink eye.

When you say that the corner of his eye is red, do you mean the corner of the eye lid or the eye itself?

I know my son caught a bad sinusitis a few weeks ago. He had the fever and congestion. His eyes were red too and it was due to a sinus pressure headache caused by the sinusitis. He was put on antibiotics for 2 weeks but it is also because he had a bad bronchitis and a cough that had been lasting for almost a month.

I would keep an eye on the color of the mucus coming out of his nose. If it is very thick, yellow or green then that linked with fever is a sign of infection.

I'm hoping him feeling better keeps up!

Both my sons eyes were different. One was red on the right one was red on the left. His right eye was like a dot in the middle of the white. Like the other mama said, its from the sinus pressure. I agree that you should keep an eye on his mucus too. My son got a nasty sinus infection from this wacky virus he caught.

He doesn't even have any snot coming out at this point, it's all congestion. And it's the eye ball itself. DH and I have been sick for 2 weeks now with sinus congestion, most likely sinus infections but we keep waiting for it to clear up, I think mine finally is. I didn't think after 2 weeks LO would get sick but he got it finally.

:( Poor little guy. I don't know what kind of virus is running around but in my area EVERYONE catches bad sinusitis lately. When I was at the ER with my son the waiting room was full of kids with the exact same thing! There was an industrial amount of used kleenex in the garbage lol.

Maybe the pressure is also cause by irritation in his sinuses and it would make his adenoids swell. Maybe you could ask your doctor for some Nasonex. That really helps with the swelling and the pressure would get better.

Sinus head aches hurt like hell! Babies and toddlers are so darn tough! They withstand huge discomfort and then bounce back within hours as though nothing happened. Makes me feel like a wimp every time I think about it hahaha.

If he seems fine this morning though, and the redness does not get worse there is nothing wrong with waiting it out and letting his immune system fight it.

You know better then anyone what's best for your little guy!
