HCG Injections = Positive pregnancy test? Amelia Badelia TTC since May 2010; 16 kids; Alaska 532 posts

Soooooooooo I'm really excited for my sister. She's been trying for FOREVER to have a child, and she has never gotten a positive pregnancy test until a few days ago. She's on the HCG diet and takes the injections. She stopped taking the shot yesterday or the day before and this morning at midnight took a test and it was DEFINITELY positive is what she's telling me.

She also took one a few days ago and she said it was pretty dark as well. The one she took today was darker than the last.

She gets her results on Monday. I'm so freaking excited for her it's ridiculous!! She's suffered with PCOS and this month she was on her fertility meds.

Soooo do you think you'd get a strong positive from the HCG injections? I'd imagine getting a faint line, but idk how that diet works so I am not sure how much she's putting into her body.

If she is following the diet correctly and only eating 500 cals a day then I would be shocked if she got pregnant.

Um yeah the hCG injections would cause a positive pregnancy test....

And I would be very shocked if someone was able to get pregnant while giving themselves injections of hCG. The purpose of those injections is to trick your body into thinking it is pregnant and you can not get pregnant if you are already pregnant. Why anyone actively TTC would start such a dangerous diet is beyond me.

you have to be off the hcg injections for more than 2 days and wait for the shot to be completely out of your system to get an accurate result because that shot has what the pregnancy test is measuring so in order for her to get a real result she would probably have to be off the shot about a week or so depending on how much she is taking and how long she has taken it because one of the side effects is unfortunately false pregnancy tests

It's probably a false positive because of the injections. Also it can easily make any HPT be positive but if she were to take a blood test it would be negative.

Holy moley, keep your negative vibes to yourselves! She's on this diet because her PCOS is restricting her from losing weight. She goes to a doctor for both the HCG and the PCOS and they know about it and from what I'm guessing, they're ok with it.

She's thinking that it may be from the HCG, but everything I've looked up saying it'll only show faint positives. She's never got a positive though, and never ovulated. She did this cycle. From what she thinks. She's also been on this diet before.

Also, HCG injections are given to women who are TTC to induce ovulation.

yes they are but not in the same dosages for the same length of time someone who is on the hCG "diet". And if your sister is with a doctor who is encouraging her to starve herself to lose weight she needs to find a different doctor who knows what they are talking about. It is not healthy to only eat 500 cals a day over a prolonged period of time. END OF STORY.

And from your defensiveness its sounding like your "sister" is actually you.

Um PCOS is not "restricting" her from losing weight. She can use it as an excuse if she wants, but it's not stopping her from losing weight. I was diagnosed with PCOS last summer AND I have a thyroid condition that makes it more difficult to lose weight and I've lost 50lbs already WITHOUT any crazy diets or miracle pills or cures.

People can find whatever excuse they want, but anyone can lose weight.

So what if it is a "fad", she's trying to have a baby and she wants to lose weight to have one. Wouldn't you do that also if regular dieting, exercising, eating right DIDN'T do it for you? Some women that have PCOS have those problems.

And I'm defensive because she's my sister. I have been waiting for her to get pregnant for the last 4 damn years. Don't rain on my parade!

HCG injections can cause false pregnancy test, so that is what it looks like happened to your sister.
