Second membrane sweep... *~Surrounded by boys~* 3 kids; Clio, Michigan 239 posts

I am 39 weeks 2 days and today my doctor performed a second membrane sweep. Last week when i had my first sweep i was dilated to 2 cm and after the sweep I had a lot of bloody show and mucous. Today when he did the sweep I was at 3 cm and No blood, no show, no anything. I have however been having a ton a BH and some real crampy nasty contractions but none are consistent. I will be induced next Wednesday due to a platelet issue if baby does not decide to make an appearance before then. Im really trying to avoid the induction as I have had it in the past and I really do NOT want it. Any advice? Other than baby will come when he is ready because well...baby is coming in a week whether he likes it or not; I would just like it be on his and my terms and not in the hospital. TIA

You could try to have a lot of sex. It helped me go into labor with my last 2 kids. That's only if you are aloud that is. And try to walk a lot also. Just go to the extreme and hurt yourself. With you being 3 centimeters after having sex it should be really quick that you go into labor. Oh and try to do a lot of house work also. With my very last baby the day before I went into labor I had cleaned my house top to bottom Literally, walked for like and hour and a half twice, And had sex like 4 times. I didn't even know I was in labor the next day until my water broke. Lol Congrats and I hope it helps.

hey what is a membrance sweep anyways? is that where the dr goes in and stretches your cervix to make you dilate more?

Its where the dr goes in and separates your bag of waters from your cervix and lower uterus. Its supposed to cause a hormonal reaction that triggers labor. It has about a 50/50 shot of working within 48 hours.

My labor started with cramping after it. Within 24 hours after my midwife did it my daughter was born. She told me that I needed to go home and "have my way" with my husband that night or the odds of it working weren't as good. Sooooo.. if your man is around, go knock some boots! :) Good luck.
