Hives early pregnancy Marlyskc Due November 30; Missouri 3 posts

I developed hives everywhere overnight at about 7 wks pregnant. I woke up with what looked like chigger bites all over. My eye was a little swollen. A week has gone by and I have also experienced foot and hand swelling/tenderness/pain....lip and eye swelling throughout the night. The hives are all different sizes and some are welt like. They are on my abdomen, back of neck/scalp, arms, and legs. I know about this PUPPS stuff but its so rare this early. I have never had hives before and am not allergic to anything. I am taking Benadryl at night, Clariton and Tegamet (both histamine blockers) during the day. I absolutely hate taking meds while early pregnant but am afraid of what will happen if I dont. I also have to return to work sometime soon. Please let me know if you have experienced or heard of anything like this. Im so scared. Thanks!

I had completely unexplained hives during my 1st pregnancy (4 1/2 years ago). My allergist and my OB had no clue why, the only explanation was the level of hormones because I am allergic to one of the hormones in BC, but there was no way to determine that for sure. When I take BC I break out in hives. I had them MOSTLY on my thighs but many times they were all over my body. They started shortly before I found out I was preggo (at 4 weeks) and lasted until the end of my pregnancy. Occasionally they would go away but be right back a few days after clearing up.

Thanks for the repy! That does make me feel better. Although I have never had a problem with birth control, I still think my body is reacting to the hormones. Did you take medicine in your first trimester..if so what? Also, did you have a boy? Im hearing that its likely you have a boy with hives.

I'm having problems with hives now and I'm 21 wks. I've had problems before I was pregnant but now they go away and come back. I haven't been taking much for them since I'm pregnant and I don't wanna hurt the baby. Sorry I can't help much further but no one knows why I get them either.
