Amber Teething Necklaces Bad idea. Satan 5 kids; Satans Kingdom, Vermont 114758 posts

Amber teething necklaces HAVE been found to contain succinic acid...which has been known to be used as a pain reliever.

Here's the thing though. WHEN it was used..amber was pulverized...and put in HOT HOT water to release the acid.
At room temp..it's solid (Amber)..it doesn't melt at all till it gets to 185 degrees C.
That's WAY hotter than a baby's temperature. Science has PROVEN that these necklaces can't release any of this "pain relieving" acid at skin/body temp.

On top of that..these are choking hazards. Parents are leaving them on baby's all night. During naps..becuase ...well...that's when you want the relief..right? When baby's trying to sleep.

I hear people say "It can't hurt" and yes. When the stretchy necklace chokes the baby to death...or it breaks and lodges in the baby's throat...yes it can hurt.

If you're going to use these..don't expect miracles. Expect a beautiful piece of jewelry. That's all.
Amber is gorgeous. It's my FAVORITE "gem"...but it's not a medicine.
It's not something to be left on a baby if the baby is unattended at ALL. Ever.

/end.

Who leaves anything like a necklace on a baby .

Hell, if I fall asleep with a necklace on, I wake up thinking someone really weak is trying to choke me .

i wouldn't waste my money on a "necklace" for my baby either way but one reason is that i would have too much anxiety over my kid wearing a choking hazard. i still am hesitant when my three and a half year old wears one.

Is that like the cocked thingy that parents wear? Who would leave a baby with a necklace! That is insane!

Here's the other thing.

HOw many people have bought AMBER ..and don't realize that it's not real?
Amber is incredibly easy to fake.
INCREDIBLY.

I always wondered what the consequences of a constant, steady dose of pain reliever would do to a baby? That is, assuming the necklaces worked? From what I've gathered from parents who use them, they're on the babies constantly, for long periods of time, whether the kid is teething or not.

So kid gets used to pain relievers.. then the time comes to take it off.. do they have any pain tolerance whatsoever? Do they grow dependent on the necklaces to cope with pain?
Honestly curious.

Oh my gosh! That looks extremely breakable! Anything that is small enough to fit in a babies mouth should never be left alone with them.

Common sense people it should be a law!

Ok, I'll admit, I didn't know that people were silly enough to put them on a child.
I've always thought that the mother wore them and the baby would gnaw on it while she was holding/soothing the baby.
I've also never seen beaded ones, I've only ever seen the big, mostly tear drop shaped ones.

That's what I always thought of too when I would hear of teething necklaces. Nothing to do with amber, just something the baby could chew on while being held. I had a wooden one.

My first time hearing about the amber ones like this was a couple months ago, on a thread here.
