Newborn hasn't peed! LunaGotKnockedUp Due June 19 (boy); 2 kids; Georgia 535 posts

My LO is just a little over 13 hours old and it seems that he hasn't peed a single time yet? He's made at least 5 poops but I don't even know if his popps have anything to do with his intake yet?

I'm breastfeeding and is him not peeing yet a cause of concern? Does it mean he isn't getting anything when he nurses? Would he still be pooping if he wasn't getting anything?

I'm just worried because my 21 month old was born with a kidney blockage in both kidneys. But even so he still peed all over the place when he was first born. They did an ultrasound on baby Brother's kidneys earlier but I won't know anything til tomorrow.

So am I just psyching myself out?

Are you still in the hosp? The nurses should or should have told you what is normal and what isnt. If your at home you should call L&D and ask them.

You won't know until tomorrow either way......so just enjoy the fact that you aren't changing wet diapers. Obviously at least half of his system is working if he is pooping...
and babies' stomachs are only about the size of a hazelnut - maybe you have some thick milk that is going out the back instead of out the front.

You and your lil man are where you should be if something is wrong, so just be patient and enjoy the new lil guy.

Hope everything is ok though! (*fingers crossed*)

Still here. The nurse is the one who brought him not peeing to my attention and told me to let her know when he did. He's fed twice since she brought it to attention and still nothing :/

I work in LDRP, and we give newborn 24 hours to pee. If he has had a lot of poopy diapers it may have been mixed in with the poop. Do they use the diapers with the yellow line that turns blue when wet?

Yes, that's pretty much what we've been going by but he hasn't changed the color of a single line yet :(

That's what I was thinking so I wasn't worried but the nurse said the line on his diaper should have changed color

Just keep watching him! If they already did an ultrasound then they will let you know how that turns out, but like I said we don't worry where I work until they are more than 24 hours old. Good luck! :)

they thought DD wasn't peeing... I was freaking out! So i folded 1 square of toilet paper up and put it in her diaper... turned out she WAS peeing, but they pee so small at first. She just wasnt peeing enough to change the line...
IDK how it works with a boy, but you could try it??
Good luck mama!!

It took my son about that long to pee for the first time. He finally peed after they poured warm water over his belly.
