Quoting seattlemama3 *NMD*:" I saw my doc today and he said I could stay on met my whole pg. He said he has never had anyone do it ... [snip!] ... I wanted to that was fine. I'm hoping it will make it so I don't have another giant baby. I was never diagnosed with gd though."

My RE and OB had me stop Metformin around 9 weeks. If I had enough to last me my pregnancy with my daughter I would have taken it. I've done a lot of research on Metformin and pregnancy, it's safe!

My daughter was only 6lbs 10oz, my GD was diet controlled. It looks like this time around I'll have to be very strict about my carb intake. I've only gained 1-2lbs out of the 22 I lost with this pregnancy, I'm honestly going to be shocked if I have GD because my A1C was good and overall I eat healthy.

Yes, it's very safe according to my OB. I was put on metformin by the RE, just for PCOS hormone balance. My glucose and insulin levels were great. Anyway, last week at my appointment my OB said that he would keep me on it the remainder of my pregnancy. He actually said he wished he could put EVERY pregnant patient he had on it. He said that during pregnancy all women are at least mildly diabetic, and the metformin helps to keep everything in check.

What I read said everything that your doctor did. I was on Metformin to balance my hormones too and to try to regulate my body. I actually stopped Metformin in December after our 3 failed IUI because I was done "trying". I wish I would have refilled it so I could take it with this pregnancy but I wasn't thinking.

See fruit was my problem with my daughter. I thought it was very healthy to just eat fruit but I found out I had to limit that because of the sugars in fruit. For the past few weeks I've been eating a ton of fruit because it's all I crave. I was also told by the dietician that I saw with my daughter to not have any fruit until the afternoon.

Lately I've been eating tons of oranges and strawberries.

I'm sorry to talk about so much pregnancy related stuff in here. In my due date thread nobody responds to me so it's hard to discuss this stuff.

So I'm only on day two of taking the metformin and I got sick from it. Fingers crossed my body gets used to it. I've decided to do the no carb thing as much as I can. My doctor said that they want me on metformin until we hear a heartbeat when I do get preggers. We have a wedding on Saturday so I'm super bummed I have to watch the food at the cocktail hour. That's always the best part!!

You mean low carb right? Zero carbs isn't good for you.

The first time I started Metformin at 16 it made me puke every day. My doctor had to take me off Metformin for 2 months (I think) then restart it. Once I restarted it I had no problems. Good luck with the Metformin.

What dose did they start you at? It's usually easier on you to start low and build up. The first time I was on it, years ago, they put me on 1000mg starting. I was super sick, no appetite, it sucked. This time they put me on 500 @ night and I've had no problems. Loose stools for a couple days and that was it. If it continues to bother you after a couple of days you can ask to lower your dose until you tolerate it better, then increase. Good luck!

I'm on 500mg for a week. Then it moves to 1000mg and then finally to 1500mg a week after that. I noticed having yogurt this morning helped to settle my stomach so I'm going to stick with that.

Oh, how funny! And thanks for the info. I'm going to be out of town for the next few days, so hopefully AF cooperates and I can get it timed right to go in for an appt and get it going this month. Ugh, I wish they could have just gave me a prescription over the phone. :)
