I recently started thinking that I'd like to get something like this. I really want it for apps, occasional movies, and some reading.Basically I want it to do more than just be an e-reader. I would love apps that my daughter could play with. Would I be ok with a kindle or nook or do I have to go with a more expensive tablet? What are your guys experience with these products?

I love my Kindle but not a fan of the Kindle Fire. I'd like a Nook Color but I don't like B&N's setup. Tablets are nice, best of both worlds because you can have a Nook app and Kindle app if you so choose.

It's all about personal preference.

I jsut saw, today, at Costco a new Vizio tablet. It's cheaper then the kindle fire, and really nice looking.
Maybe check that one out see if it meets your needs at all?

Quoting ღMaMaMackadoo:" I love my Kindle Fire. I can put apps on it from the Amazon App Store and read my books, plus watch movies. ... [snip!] ... my books, plus watch movies. My DD loves playing with it, too. No reason for an expensive tablet for just those simple things."

i have a kindle fire and i love it! i have over 200 books on it that i'll get around to reading. i also use it for facebook, twitter, random web browsing, games, and watching movies on amazon instant. if you have netflix, you can use it on there as well. yes, the nook technically has more storage, but they restrict what you can do with it. if you have the 16GB model, they only allow you 1GB for personal content.

I'm getting my son a Kindle fire for his pre-k graduation, so he can leave my husband's cellphone alone. He always draining the battery.

We are going to load it with children's book, since he loves books. Of course, I will be using it from time to time

My mom loves her kindle for reading and games, my sister(age 6) even downloaded a movie on accident(Then we put on the parental controls.) . My 2 and a half year old knows how to work it pretty well and there is netflix on it also which entertains the kids. Lots of free games too which is a plus.

^ that's why we are leaning more on getting the kindle. With Nook, they have limited stuff.

thanks for all the info. I think I'll look more into getting a kindle. I've wanted an Ipad for a long time, but just can't afford one. This seems like a good alternative.
