Cranberry supplements while pregnant... Erica M. 1 child; Cincinnati, Ohio 22 posts

Most of the info I find online about taking cranberry pills while pregnant is very back and forth. So I figured I'd ask here if anyone has taken them while pregnant... I'm prone to UTI's to begin with, and I was informed that I'll be more prone to them while I'm pregnant and it's turning to summer... so factors are not in my favor, lol. I've already had one since finding out I was expecting, and the cost of those antibiotics was ridiculous...

I do plan on calling my doctor to get his opinion, but first I was just curious as to what others have done to help prevent. And don't say cranberry juice, I'm in that phase where sugary stuff makes me sick, and cranberry juice is chock full of syrupy sugarness... I've thrown it back up numerous times, didn't even feel sick before drinking it! :(

I get UTIs without my pills so I continue taking them. Never been told to stop taking them. (On my second pregnancy)

Is there a specific mg you're taking? I bought some tonight, just to have them if the doc okay's it, and they're 3600 mg...

Mine are 1680mg each and I take 6 daily.

Wow, 6?! My doctor okayed the ones I got. It's actually a 300mg tablet, but it equals out to 3600mg of raw cranberries. He told me to just take one a day for the time being. So hopefully it works!

Thanks for responding, most of the stuff I was reading online made it out to be a bad thing to take cranberry supplements. Strange.

Yeah, I worked up to the amount but for me any less makes it not worth taking. That's weird you're finding negative things though, I got yelled at by doctors for not taking them when I constantly went in for infections lol.

Most of the "negative" remarks were because there's not a lot of evidence that it's either good or bad. This was one of the better articles I found: http://www.livestrong.com/article/534912-daily-cranberry-supplements-while-pregnant/
I can see why they can be bad if you're taking certain meds already.
