Your opinion on adoption? ~RJS~ Stockholm, Sweden 4528 posts

So, I started this debate on a swedish site (parenting site, too), and I've already got a bit of response on it, so I wanted to compare between cultures.

What do you think about adoption? Is it something wonderful, or does it deminish people's values (i.e by making them a "trading" item)? Or do you have any other view?

If anyone's interested I could give a quick summary of the swede's opinions...

I think in many cases it's wonderful.

But there are cases where it's just a bargaining chip, and that I hate.

I think it's a wonderful thing...as long as the parents are able to provide for the child.

It,s the exact same point of view I have about pregnancies. I see adopted babies as I see biological babies...because there is no distinction for the parents. They won't love less an adopted baby kwim.

and yes, I'd like a summary of the swedish point of view. :)

It is for some people. My SO said he couldn't do it.

I think its great for people who do not want to raise a child yet. Or can not raise one. And people who can't conceive on their own benefit greatly from it.

I think adoption is a good thing overall. I think in some cases the amount of money that is exchanged is ridiculous, but the basic concept of loving parents who truely want a child, taking them in and raising them is a good thing.

I'm very for adoption and think its a very beautiful gift to give to a couple that can't have their own children. I'm a tad biased on it thou because my best friend cannot physically carry a baby herself (she has heart problems and a pregnancy would cause way to much stress on it and kill her) so she has to adopt to have kids. Last year she adopted a beautiful baby girl and shes hoping to get back on the list soon to hopefully get her baby boy.

I was adopted as a baby. I feel it's a wonderful thing for some people but can see how it would not be an option for everybody.

I think it's at as long as the baby is going to a good family, and not being placed in foster care

lol, so far it's only one person who is calling BM shitheads (basically) the rest are rolling their eyes.

But I agree with everyone else here :)

IMO people shouldnt be picky about sex or anything when it comes to adopting a child.
