Dilating too early ? Rayy Johns Due August 31 (girl); Columbus, Ohio 9 posts

I'll be 28 weeks on Saturday . This is my first baby . For the last week everytime I wipe I see this pink discharge. I spotted early in pregnancy and it was like brown, so I knew it was blood but this is a whole different color. So I freaked out a little and called my doctor, he said he would check for infections and such later this month when I go in for my check up. Then later that next I started having contractions so the next morning I called again. He had me come in right away yesterday which my check up isn't scheduled for another 3 weeks. He checked my cervix and told me it was softened and I was dilated to 1 already. To me that doesn't sound normal. I go back in a few days to be checked again. Has anyone been through this ? Is it okay be dilating already ?

that depends on whether or not it's your first pregnancy, how far along you are, any contractions to go along with that dilating?

i think they should be putting you in the hospital so that they can stop labor if it comes on but that's just my opinion.

here and there , but not as much as I was that day. He told me to take it easy until my appt and if I have more contractions at all to go straight to l&d

So you're not contracting anymore then? Yes that is too early, especially if you've been spotting red and contracting. When that happened to me my doctor immediately send me up to L&D to be admitted and given shots to stop the labor and another set of shots to mature the baby's lungs. I'm kinda suprised that he's being so relaxed about it.

That what I said to my mom. He acted like he wasn't worried at all. But I know some people don't even start to dilate until they're in their last weeks

hell i never dilated at all. it is way too early and i would think he'd have you in the hospital being watched.

It is alright to start dilating a few weeks early like even 6 weeksish before your due date can be 'normal' but if it's combined with bleeding and contracting then that is cause for concern. How does your mom feel about it? Is she in agreement with you about your doctor's seeming lack of concern? If she is then maybe bring her with you to your next appointment to help you to be firm about more proactive intervention/treatment.

and btw, anymore spotting or contracting (4 or more in an hour) and I'd skip the unconcerned doctor and head straight to L&D

He said the spotting is from dilating but he told me to only call if the spotting turns bright red. and if I have any contractions at all to go to the hospital . So i've basically put myself on bed rest

see he should have been proactive enough to put you on bedrest, you shouldn't have had to make the call yourself (but yes it was the right one to make IMO) and I would go in with any bleeding at all because unless it's brown then it could mean that you're actively dilating more.
