When I strip, I wash them first as normal(if they are dirty) then I do a hot wash with vinegar and baking soda( no soap) and keep washing with no soap on hot until they don't smell and don't repell.

My fiance will change wet diapers and the occasional poop but I have to wash the poopy diaper out for him :P I also do all the diaper laundry and 95% of the diaper folding. MIL changes some diapers and folds diapers when I don't have time and FIL has even done a few! I think everyone has accepted them because they really aren't much harder to deal with and we save quite a bit (important because we are saving for a house). Only thing is I've been told by my fiance that if I want more diapers I have to buy them myself because he thinks she has more than enough :P

DH was great. My mom was supportive, but swore she'd never be able to change one. Then, Mitch had his surgery and I was in recovery and came out to my mom with Adrien only a few months old and she says "He pooped." So I went to take him to the bathroom and she said "No, I got it! You just have a huge mess in your bag." LOL Thinking I really did have a huge mess, I left it til that night to worry about, and to my surprise she had the diaper all wrapped nicely :) Anyone who matters in our life was just fine changing him when needed.

How much do you use of each? I have an HE front loader if that makes a difference. We have very little odor problem... pail might be a bit smellier than it used to be though and the diapers are still absorbing but not as well. They soak around were she pees but it will not spread to soak the rest of the insert. And is that wash hot only, skipping the cold rinse until they are done?

Aw, at least you guys have some support! My mom is coming around a little by not bitching at me every time I put her in a diaper, but she still says "Oh, you're in one of those THINGS again?" to DD lol. My step dad is another story. Hopefully the tension will lift now that I'm going to start doing a load of laundry a week at SO's house.

I have an HE machine too and I think I used 1/4 cup of each. I just set mine to quick wash HOT/COLD and let it go a few times.

This is what I'd do

I'm not sure if we have a quick setting I'll have to check. And get more baking soda and vinegar if I'm going to try that. We have very little of each. I might try this on my sons cloth pullups too his are pretty smelly and he's only had them just over a month. So probably 3-4 runs would be enough with this method unless it's really really bad? And do I dump the stuff in with the diapers or use the soap dispenser?

I just dumped it right in. But I waited a minute between the baking soda and the vinegar, so my machine didn't have a foam attack. How many rinses you have to do is probably going to depend on how much buildup you have. I took one of my flats out and dried it, then tested it to see if it was repelling or absorbing well.

Sounds good! Thank you! And thanks for the foam attack warning lol I would have had that for sure if you didn't mention it!

My first order of diapers was a 12 of sunbabies for $60, so each diaper was $5/each, so I figured I had to use each diaper 20 times to equal out to disposable prices. Anything after 20 was purely free. Of course they paid for themselves very quickly.

I'm all about crunching numbers, I used to figure out the cost per disposable before I would buy a box to see what was the best deal, same with ounces of formula.

No problem! Also, since you have an HE machine and are having problems with stinky diapers on some and absorbing less with others, you might want to try running an extra wash with no detergent after each wash. If I don't, I get bad buildup.

I did that too, with sposies. I'm interested to see how much money I save this week.

I already do 1 extra rinse. Do u mean one more or just 1 total? Do the front loader when stripping would it do foam overload if I put vinegar in the soap dispenser and bakin soda on the dipes in the washer?

I do a cold prerinse, warm wash with soap and 2 cold rinse for the diapers, same with the pullups but hot wash instead of warm. Should I do more?
