Fake nail with real nail almost ripped off ♥TwinsRock♥ 2 kids; Buffalo, New York 4471 posts

Yesterday at the park DS was coming down the slide and as I put my hands up to catch him he kicked my hand and hit my pinky finger ripping off my fake nail halfway and my real nail with it. Not sure what to do. I have a band-aid on it holding it down but underneath my nail is full of blood. I'm sure I should have the fake nail taken off but it hurts so bad I can't imagine it's going to be very pleasant... Any advice? Happen to anyone else? TIA

First off.... OUCH! If it were me I would soak it in some peroxide to make sure it gets cleaned. If you can't get it off yourself I would be going to the doc.

That happened to me...I wear acrylics and it happened to my pinky finger too. I just kept a band-aid on it and waited until it fell off...It took like 2 weeks and then i ended up doing it again. on the same finger.

Did your real nail fall off or just the acrylic?

Ya, I've been soaking it. I'm just so scared to mess with it... But like you said, I'm sure it needs to come off...

The real nail did...I ended up having half of a real nail it looked really silly, but it did grow all the way back to normal and then i ended up hitting it again and did the same thing, only it took longer for the nail to grow back, just keep it clean with peroxide and a bandaid letting it air out at night...It will get better...But it hurts REALLY bad

I ripped 90% of my nail off during a seizure in 2010. It looked like this immediately after:

A few hours later:

Three days later:

Needless to say the nail came off. I tried to keep it on in hopes that it would reattach to the nail bed but that wasn't in the cards. When I finally realized it was best for it to come off I went into the bathroom, grabbed some tweezers, and started playing with it to see how hard it would be to get it off. It didn't give too much resistance so I removed the entire nail myself. Within a few days the nail bed was hard and it was no longer painful, just sensitive. It remained that way until the nail grew back around four months later. It has never been the same but looks pretty normal now.

Anyway, if I were you I wouldn't run to the doctor just yet. Keep a bandage on it to hold it in place and watch it for a few days. If it starts to come off even more on its own then it's probably going to fall off in due time. Let it fall off without playing with it... Your body knows what is best. It'll get rid of anything it doesn't need. If it starts to become more attached within a few days then continue keeping a bandage on it until it totally returns to normal. Don't forget to let it breathe though when you clean it and such. Good luck.

i super glue mine down till the nail grows out and then remove it your gonna have to wait no matter what you do till it grows out also put a band aid on it to keep infection from trying to set in

Ouch! That looks super painful. Mine is still extremely tender so I am going to give it a few days and see what happens. Thanks for the advice!
