There's no reason for you to get the amniocentesis. You CAN Deny it...it comes back with false positives a lot.

I would look up all the risks of an amnio and have a long talk with your SO about it. One of the common risks is preterm contractions and preterm labor. If they think your LO has a medical condition that is cause for concern with his heart, I would way the pros and cons very carefully. The test does have a high false positive for Down's and a few others, but it also has a pretty high false negative rate too.

welll they want me to get an amnio because they told us that if it turns out the baby does have a chromosomal defect that is more serious, then the baby might now survive after hes born. :(

My SO was born with this. He has no other issues and had the surgery when he was 4 months old. Your baby can have the heart problem and have nothing else wrong. I would deny the amnio if it was me.

Honestly, I would insist on another sono first. They can usually see other anomalies that indict Down's or other problems on them. If that came back with concern, I would consider the amnio.

Did you have the level 2, the next step would be amnio if you are in that range. Narrowing down what may be causing ut can help them prepare for his birth and necessary interventions better. Did they see any other dons markers?

Quoting x0xcourtney:" I am currently 27 weeks pregnant and got sent yesterday to the pediatric cardiologist due to limited ... [snip!] ... even having downs. If anyone has any opinions, stories, or anything that you could share... it would be extremely helpful "

its a heart defect, not disease. i would do the amnio personally, its best to know everything you possibly can before the baby is born, and have the right team in place, than to deliver and them have no idea how to treat the baby. downs and digeorge would both complicate treatment, and digeorge is impossible to tell by ultrasound alone.

i recently had a heart baby too, if you need someone to talk to :)
