Does he have a sr22 bond? How does the BMv know he doesn't have ins? I have not had ins before and I never got a letter.
Ive never heard of them asking to turn in the license plate. I always thought like you, you just go in and pay whatever you have to get caught up on.
No, here in NC, if you don't have car insurance, you are not allowed to drive and DMV will get their license plate back. You can get fined A LOT, for keeping the plate.
Pretty sure he could get jail time, too.
Yes, they do want your plates so you can't drive. Unless he sends proof of insurance they will ask for the plate, then I believe the next step is license suspension.
I have no idea, honestly. I've never heard of anyone having to turn their plates in before.
Quoting [wtf] i'm heather.:" Does he have a sr22 bond? How does the BMv know he doesn't have ins? I have not had ins before and I never got a letter."
Either his parents ratted him out or they're just making it up that a letter was sent to him. Idk what an sr22 is.
They will go after him to turn in his plates. They did it to me also. Insurance notifies the DMV. You can't register a car until you have proof of insurance, so therefore when you loose insurance or cancel, etc they notify the DMV.
In nj you have to turn in plates also...I've never heard of them actively going after someone but if he's pulled over the cop will tow the car and confiscate the plates.
An sr 22 bond insures that you will hold insurance or your license will get suspended.
