September is Childhood Awareness month. Did you know BG has its own group of pediatric cancer patients, survivors and those who have sadly lost the battle? I asking you to help spread awareness by changing your AVI this month to a gold ribbon....spread the link to your PTs and facebooks, lets see how Gold we can cover BG!

In the U.S., about 46 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer every week day. That's about the equivalent of two entire classrooms.

The cause of most childhood cancers is unknown and at present, childhood cancers cannot be prevented.

On the average, 12,500 children and adolescents in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer each year.

Cancer in childhood occurs regularly, randomly, and spares no ethnic group, socioeconomic class, or geographic region.

While the cancer death rate has dropped more dramatically for children than for any other age group, 2,300 children and teenagers will die each year from cancer

Childhood Cancers are the #1 disease killer of children. More than asthma, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and pediatric AIDS combined.

When the internet black out came around, TONS of people had black censoring avis -- here and on FB. If we can do that, I think we can turn BG gold for something as pressing as Childhood Cancer.

And create a pepper on Chili's website! They're GREAT supporters of Childhood Cancer Awareness.

Good idea with changing AVI's, I will change mine too but September is also Histiocytosis Awareness Month (the disease Cullen has, so my ribbon will be blue.) :) I really hope more people change their AVIs.

I've never really understood this idea.

What exactly is raising awareness going to do?

Think of pink.

Childhood cancer only recieves 4% of funds from the American Cancer Society.

The reason childhood cancer is not funded, is the lack of knowledge. Until it hits home, like with me and Rain and some other mamas here, you dont think of it.

One day we mamas hope instead of seeing pink EVERYWHERE (which is great, dont get me wrong) we see GOLD EVERYWHERE, cause then and only then will funding increase, and that means more trials, more survivors and less toxic treatments.

:)

(on another note, keep an eye on my profile for my sons up and coming Dragon Ball room lol)

Yeah...its is sad. Sad that we are using the same treatments they used in the 70's. Sad that they are trying to come up with treatments to save fertility but just dont have the funding to do so. Sad that our kids dont ask for cancer, they dont do anything to get it, and like that facts above say, most childhood cancers are unkown as to why they happen or where they come from.
