Of 190 countries looked at in a recent study, only Papua New Guinea, Swaziland and the U.S. didn't offer any sort of paid or even guaranteed parental leave.

The study also showed the many long term and short term benefits from guaranteed and paid parental leave to society.

Thoughts?

Why should someone have to pay for my time off?

I don't think companies should be required to do paid parental leave, no.

Wait, you're being paid to take an entire year off of work?

I wish we were like Canada. I got laid off due to budget cuts so I'm staying home for a year. I wouldn't have if I hadn't been laid off

Well I paid into it from my own paychecks to get paid maternity and parental leave thats how it works.
If your job pays into EI, then its not just someone paying you to have time off.

Personal responsibility, anyone? If you want a baby, pay for it yourself. Why should the taxpayers have to give more out of their hard earned money so you can sit at home with your kid?

f**k I would go for 3 weeks paid off. That would have at least got me up to my due date.

Even though countries with these programs show productivity gains, lower turn over costs and health care savings?
