when you Breast feed your baby, and you get a cold, does it pass on to the baby? What do you do if it does and your sick?

I just got over a pretty bad upper respiratory infection. I had it, my whole family had it, and my daughter did NOT get it.

I have had two colds in the 17 months I have been nursing and DS has never been sick in his life.

Breastmilk has antibodies that help protect your baby. I actually nurse more when I am sick.

When you get sick your milk will supply the proper antibodies to your baby.. Nurse as much as you can when you are sick so baby has a higher chance of avoiding the illness :-)

THIS!!!! I've been sick for over a week, so have both of my daughters and oldest son. LO is almost 6 weeks and is perfectly fine. He is EBF and I'm convinced that's why he hasn't gotten sick.

ps I have found that claritin is what works best for me.. doesn't mess with my supply and I only have to take it once a day.

I am sooooo glad it works that way!! I usually have colds throughout the winter season. I just wasnt sure if the exposure to the cold was actually increased due to the amount of time they spend with/on you for BF. Thank you ladies!!
