DD not wiping BRowell 3 kids; 2 angel babies; Bristol, TN, United States 3721 posts

DD is 5 and just started kindergarten in August. It's the first time she's been away from me besides with her grandparents. I've noticed that since she started school when she goes to the bathroom she doesn't wipe or flush. It doesn't matter if she pees or poops, she goes, then washes her hands and she's done. I have to either go with her or remind her to do it every time she goes and I also tell her to make sure she wipes and flushes at school every morning before she gets on the bus. When I ask her why she isn't doing it when she knows to she says she just forgets. She'll start to remember after going a couple times at home and on weekends because I've reminded her but then when she gets home from school she's forgot again. It's caused her one UTi already and she's always ichy because of it. I don't know what to do to help her remember and I don't know that it's appropriate to talk with her teacher about it. Anyone have any ideas?

I would really just keep reminding her. Did she clean herself all the time before school started?

There's not much her teacher can do. My almost 5 yr old is doing the same thing. It drives me bonkers. She's started Lying about it now too. I had to talk to her teacher though cause she was "dribbling" everyday cause she wouldn't go to the bathroom he would raise her hand and by the time the teacher would get to her she'd already have peed a little and couldn't make it to the bathroom. So we both talked to get about just going and not asking. I hope it helps. She started to get like a diaper rash :( But as far as wiping the teachers not gonna go in there and make sure she wipes. We just keep reminding dd and explaining why it's important. Idk what else to do.

make a step by step list for the bathroom. like 1)go pee, 2)wipe, 3)pull up pants, 4)flush, 5)wash hands. You could even do it on a dry erase board and have her cross off each step when she goes. There's not much you can do at school but once she gets it down at home she'll remember it there too

I don't have any experience with that..but I would talk with the teacher. She should be helpful. I don't think it's at all inappropriate. Good luck.

Yes. I've just noticed it since she started. I don't know why she wouldn't do it there. I asked her if she knew where the toilet paper is there and if she knows how to flush and she says yes. Idk maybe they rush her or something?

I was thinking maybe talking to the teacher because I'm thinking maybe DD feels rushed or maybe she doesn't know how to flush the toilet there or something? I know she's told me that the whole class goes together and they go in 3 at a time because they have to go down the hall to the bathroom.

My daughter was having the same problems. She wipes now because I kept reminding her. Then my mom's boyfriend got mad and said she used too much toilet paper (trust me...she doesnt). After he got mad, she went back to using 1 little square of paper. I have sprayed my DD with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide to keep the UTIs and yeast infection away. So far it works.
My daughter flushes most of the time. Sometimes she doesnt. If I catch her, I make her flush instead of me flushing it for her.

Yeah I either try to go with her and remind her and watch to make sure or if I can't go I remind her. If later I see that she hasn't wiped or flushed I have her come flush and then get in the shower.
