Ive been getting leg/hip spasms or cramps and my friend told me about "Tonic Water". Is this something that is safe to drink while in the third trimester of pregnance? If it is ok to drink, but in small amounts,why are other sites saying not to drink it and some saying its ok?

tonic water is usually found in the alcholol section of a grocery store, but doesnt contain alcholol. Its carbonated drink that contains Quinine. Tonic water is usually found near the club soda, ginger ale, etc.
Tonic water has Quinine.

The amount of quinine in tonic water is less than 100mg per litre of tonic water.
The amount of quinine in a quinine tablet is about 300mg and the dose for malaria is 600mg three times a day (1800mg daily for a average adult)
It is in Pregnancy Category D because in high doses it has been shown to cause foetal abnormalities, however, in food substances (such as tonic water) it is generally recognised as safe.

why the hell would anyone want to drink water with quinine in it in the first place???? someone please enlighten me!!

Instead of using tonic water you can try the soap method. IT IS WORKING FOR ME!!! Get a bar of FRESH Ivory soap and place it unwrapped between your fitted sheet and your matress down by your feet. I was getting 9-10 BAD leg cramps a night and now I don't. The effect does wear off in a few weeks so be ready with a spare bar of soap when that one stops working. You can then use it for the shower. I have looked and looked for why this works and can't find any convincing reason but for most people it helps a lot! It sure won't hurt you. :D
