No Im not a newb asking if my ob will do it....I think my OB DID strip my membranes today at my 36 week appt. Reasons, Im 3cm dilated already and Ive read some obs will do it to help the body progress and not tell you. It was PRETTY painful. Like I wanted to jump off the table. I was littleraly gripping the table. It felt like the MS i had done when pregnant the first time. and I saw her arm twisting, and it friggen hurt. So Im worried. what should I feel now cuz I have a lot more pressure and it hurts more now when I move. Why would she do this? What signs now should I look for sadly? And is there any way to kno for sure if she did it? Like I said. Ive NEVER EVER had an exam hurt that bad. it felt like she was moving her fingers around the baby.....I remember this feeling. so WTH.

I thought doctors couldn't do anything without at least telling you or getting your permission first

My doc did it when I was at a 3 at 36 weeks with my son (he was already measuring over 8lbs---which he was. My belly was measuring huge and it was obvious he was going to be large from early on).

He asked and I said "okay" because I was contracting every 5 minutes already. It didn't work. In fact, he did it every week from 36 weeks to 40w1d---four time total. Never worked for me because my stubborn son wasn't ready yet. He waited til 40w4d to appear!

I felt cramping afterward for a few hours and some women can spot. That was it for me, though.

The only way to know for sure is to ask....
I don't see why she would purposefully not tell you, but if it hurt THAT bad (and you saw her arm twisting while inside you) why not ask?

I have a feeling she wants me to go sooner or later and she may have thought Id say no? Idk its just weird to ask. N yea i saw her arm twisting some. Im mainly positive she did a membrane sweep. Its never been that painful. I do trust her. I just fe el like I dont wana birth this baby yet.

If that's true. IMO get a new doctor next time.
But you don't know if she actually did the sweep or not. CALL.

I do not know what that is or how it feels and I'm pregnant with my third child. All I can tell you is that you should ask her a.s.a.p what exactly it was that she did to you. I wouldn't feel comfortable with her touching me again until it was all cleared up and you're four weeks away from birth... doesn't give you any real time to switch and get to know a new doctor.

Maybe your cervix was further back and she was reaching? Idk, just thinking of why else it would hurt- my cervix is tilted and when Ive had checks in the past, they have sometimes had to reach and sometimes they dont. Its very painful when they do. Hopefully she wouldnt do anything without telling you, thats violating, Id casually ask her about it though... try not to accuse, just see what she says. Maybe she will confess, or at least clear your mind for you. If she did, Id be pressed to find a new OB, thats really breaking your trust and who knows what she might try to pull when you are in labor..

My friend said that she got that done to her in her last pregnancy and it sounded like it was the most painful experience ever! She said it hurt more than actually giving birth. Plus she said it didn't work for her. I wouldn't let my doctor do it if I was asked... I'm really sensitive to pain and each time they check my cervix it hurts so much, I'm squirming on the table. Maybe you are sensitive to pain like I am? Have you had a cervix exam to compare the pain to? if so, and it's not the same, then its possible she did do it without your consent. I don't know why a doctor would do this without consulting the patient first, but it doesn't hurt to ask why... it is your body after all. You deserve to know what she is doing to it at all times. My doctors have never done any exams on me without explaining what it is, why we are doing it and how it will go... Hope you get the answers you seek!

I feel better today than yesterday. All day I had painful BH contractions and tons of pressure. Its possible she had to reach higher but Its never hurt me like that. What makes me think she did the sweep was her telling me Id cramp and maybe bleed and call ifmy water breaks? Andif labor starts she wont stop it. me being only 36 weeks thats alarming. I just want my induction date to come. Im miserable now.

That's because doing regular cervical checks can do that.
And after 36 weeks, they won't stop labor. It's not just her.

Don't be nervous sweety, everything will be fine! Your only going to be in the hospital 2 or 3 days at the most hopefully and I'm sure your son will visit! :D I feel you as far as wanting the baby out, I'm 37 1/2 weeks and I feel like the last week and 1/2 (I'm getting a c section on the 6th) is the longest of the entire pregnancy! Try to keep yourself busy, work on the nursery if it's not done, or go for a long walk. Calm your nerves by doing some easy breathing and maybe some light exercises to get your muscles ready. If your BHs are coming faster and more intense, try to do some calming techniques to slow them... deep breaths, low lighting and get your husband (if you have one) to give you a massage. Baths slow contractions and showers increase them.

Just FYI I haven't had a sweep, but my doctor advised me about my water possibly breaking, bloody shows and that if I went into labor they wouldn't stop it after 36 weeks as well. Most doctors feel that this is close enough to full term that it might be pointless to try to stop it. I was having contractions at 34 weeks and they were having difficulties stopping them with me at that point, it could be that it is harder to stop after 36 weeks.
