can anyone tell me about this? My son is 4 months old and has been made an appointment to go have one done in a couple days. He chokes all the time every time he takes his bottle. It gets so bad as to where he will choke and cant breathe spittin it all back up and it will come out of his nose. I cant stand it so I told his pedi about it so she ordered a swallow test done. Im scared about it and it makes me mad bc where its done is about 45 minutes away,....he wakes up of the morning to eat at aroun 6 or 7 maybe and the test isnt till ten. they told me not to feed him until he got there bc i think they put some stuff in his bottle for him to drink so it will light up things inside of his chest and lungs so the x/rays will work. has anyones babies had this done and if so...howd it turn out? what if he is aspirating it all bak into his lungs which theyre testing for? what will they do then? ive heard it gets bad when they cough/choke alot and they have to have a feeding tube put in?!! im scared can anyone tell me anything to ease my mind about it all or know about it more? thanks for any input.

They are checking for acid reflux. My son had a few done. It does suck because they can eat. They feed him stuff called barium while he is laying down on his side. After they drink it they see if it comes back up. My sons came all the way back up to his throat. My son acid reflux was so severe he ended having surgery. It was causing him to choke, bradycardiacs, and severe apnea spells. If you need to talk more you can pm me. Hopefully your little one will just have to be on medicine for it.

most little ones just have to be put on meds and it helps. My little was a very very severe case and it is usually not that bad. The hardest part of the whole test is your baby being hungry and grumpy. Where i had it done you get to be with them and the radiologist with in the room with you guys.

if he goes to bed at lets say 1230am which he prolly will around that time...is it ok to wake him up in a couple hours after that and give him maybe half of his 5 oz he usually eats so he wont be too bad hungry when we head that way to have it done?? or is that not allowed?? cuz i will be haing to deal with him screaming and crying his poor eyes out in the car the whole 45 minutes down there and then waiting for the appointment. cuz he wakes up around 6ish to eat. he will be awake starving to death from that time till 10 am when they have to do the test!! ugh! im so stressed about it. but u did make me feel better about it a lil bit andrew jordans mom thanks. sorry ur lil man had to have it so severe bless his heart.

Ok now that i am thinking about the prep. Did they tell you he could not eat? Usually the doctor who sets it up will tell if there is a prep. Andrew had so many different swallowing test done i could be mixing up the not eat part. I would call the hospital or your doctors office and ask about the eating part. The hospital will be able to tell you when he can have his past bottle. I was so stress out too as well. I completely understand. If they dont explain the test before they do it ask them too but i am sure they will. I am glad i help. If you need anything else just pm me. It is scary but you can do it. Good Luck!
