rice cereal. because it's bland. it's not needed, but I wanted to see if she was even ready for food yet. Then later we used it to thickin up her baby food, she hated runny foods

It is full of empty calories, has nothing good for baby in it. Might as well give them something that is actually good for them. Do high fatty foods like avocado, squash, pumpkin, bananas, those types of food.

the rice cereal is a good starter because it is plain...less likely to cause an allergic reaction, and there is acutally rice cereals now that have probiotics and dha in them. Its a good starter food to get baby used to eating and they tend to favor the consistancy as well. This is just my opinion as i have used it for both my kids first solids and will do so with the next as well.
