miscarriage cramps? LIVE.OUT.LOUD Due July 11 (boy); 2 kids; 1 angel baby; Lawrenceville, Georgia 1624 posts

I had a miscarriage last Saturday and im still having extreme labor like cramps in my stomach and back and I can feel them through my thighs too. I also still have alot of pressure down there. The doctor gave me a prescription for cytotec but only 2 days worth so its gone. Im still having golf ball sized clots too(at least 5 a day). Is this normal for me to hurt sooo bad still and still be having clots this much? What should I do? What can I do for the pain? Advil and other stuff doesnt help at all and its so bad I wake up alot at night and barely sleep. Any advice?

Maybe you need to go back to the doctor. There may be pieces still stuck up there.
When I miscarried it was not still going on a week later. I'm pretty sure the intense cramps were gone that day or next.

How far along were you when you M/C mama?..

I'd ask for a D&C if things don't progress/ease up in the next day.

My M/C - at around 10weeks, was pretty straight forward.

BAD cramping/contraction like pain in my abdomen/stomach & gradually it got worse/the bleeding heavier until i passed the tissue in the toilet.. i actually heard the splash after a major cramp and then the pain subsided.

After that it was just like having a period for the week & i was back to normal.

How do you feel about a D&C?

They will only give you a d&c if you retained product but I would see a dr it could be your uterus going back to regular size depending how far along you we're sorry you went through that good luck

I had exactly the same. I was passing clots for awhile, never had to have a D&C but the clots were small. I bled for about 2 weeks and then went back to normal. The HEAVY bleeding stopped 5 days after the miscarriage and then I had regular period bleeding. I was 11 weeks when I miscarried. I'm so sorry for your loss, sweetie. Benadryl helped me with the pain (sounds crazy, but I swear by it). Also MAKE SURE You are staying hydrated. I would call the doctor to see if he thinks you need an exam next week but it sounds normal. It's hard to tell sometimes.

the baby was 7.5 Weeks but I was supposed to be 9 Weeks.

I dont know that much about a d&c... Will I be asleep? Does it hurt? What do they do?

You should just call your doctor and not worry about that yet. They'll only do that if you have some tissue trapped.

Here in Australia they automatically schedule you for a D&C if you were 9 weeks pregnant at the time of M/C... only because the risk of bleeding too much etc increases the more you go past that. (thats what i was told by my DR when we thought i'd M/C a 2nd time at 9 weeks)

Go & see your DR and ask if its normal etc..

I personally would ask for a D&C if they'd let me if the pain was so bad i wasn't sleeping, painkillers werent working & it had been over 1 week.

Have you had a temperature/fever at all?.. Have you been feeling light headed etc?.. How are you feeling in general apart from the cramping?

A D&C depends on the hospital etc, some put you under for it, others dont (depends on your state/hospital).. In Australia they put you under, suction the rest of the tissue etc out & thats it. Sometimes a curette is used, but thats pretty rare now that they have the vacuum aspiration.

Its basically similar to a first trimester abortion to empty the uterine contents.

Have a chat with your DR and discuss your options.

I hope you feel better soon!

To be honest it depends on your DR etc, here my DR was going to send me straight to the hospital when we thought i'd M/C at almost 9 weeks..

Apparently it was too risky to try & pass the tissue naturally because of increased bleeding etc due to the gestation.

OP does need to chat to her DR for advice and to weigh up her options.. even regarding stronger pain meds etc if she has to go through it naturally.

Yeah here they only do it if needed. When I miscarried I was in the hospital already. They just sent me home.

It makes me wonder if all the bleeding is making you anaemic.. maybe ask your DR to take bloods to check your iron levels.

xx

Has the DR ever mentioned iron injections?..

I was really anaemic after having my son (to the point my hair was falling out, the dizzy spells etc) & they are the only thing that helped. The tablets, liquid etc weren't getting absorbed.

I had to get one injection a week for 5 weeks.. i couldn't believe the difference it made!!

You should look into it :).. you'll feel heaps better.

I wasn't a zombie anymore & actually felt normal.

I will have to look into that. The Dr prescribed me a very very high dose of the tablets but they dont work and he tried the liquid too and it only helped a little. My normal level with out the liquid is around 4 and with the liquid its 6.3 which is still really low so I will have to see about the injections. :)
