I'm trying to increase the range of non-red meat foods in my diet and I need some help. I absolutely love salmon but can't get it very often anywhere around here and when i do, more often then not its nasty. My mom and grandma love tilapia but im not too sure of it. Does it have a real fishy taste? What ways do you guys prepare it? usually they just bread it and bake it but i like a lot of spices on my food so i don't think ill like it that way.
Also, what other fish do you enjoy eating? how do you prepare it?
Tiliapia to ne isnt too fishy, I usually bake it with cheese and bread crumps, steelhead is good as well. :) baked the same way, also if u like lemon use lemon marinades :)
I use olive oil, italian dressing, and bread crumbs in skillet and I cover the fillet with the mixture, looks kinda like bredding, and I let it grill in there, sometimes I put in oven for 10-15 mins at 350 it cooks fast and is real good.

i don't think ive ever seen that in the stores here. ill have to look for it harder i guess because that looks good
okay I'm a salmon wh**e lol!! but my friend introduced me to Tilapia and it's amazing with just plain salt and a little heavy Lemon Pepper. If you want it more lemony add sone lemon slices. I eat it with Rice & asparagus. Sometimes if I want a little sourness to it I will add rice vinegar with my lemon slices. Ohh and I had just a little extra virgin olive oil to it when I use lemon pepper :) let me know how you like!
I'm odd man here. I always get told it's not too fishy.. but it's the ONLY fish I cannot stomache. I think it's gross.
I like Halibut, sea bass, mahi mahi, cod, salmon
any fish though... simple way to cook... place on foil (each individual piece) splash a little lemon juice or vinegar (always somethingh acidic), then garlic seasoning. wrap foil into a pouch, and bake until flakey.
Little more difficult... my kids FAVORITE... mince onion, mix with mayo and slather outside of fish. Then sprinkle the mayo with ranch dry seasoning mix and bake until flakey... SO freaking good. JUst.. not my healthiest recipe.
Or... bake halibut with a little lime juice sprinkled on top...
when done... top with mango salsa (diced mango, red onions, roma tomatos, cilantro, red bell peppers, and lime juice)- YUM!
I usually like mine with a fruit pepper chutney. I just put the chutney on top and bake. It's soooo good! It's not to fishy. Tilapia is one of my favorite fish.

There are also other companies that make blackened seasoning. I love it on fish :)
