potty training tips!?
For my girl, we just sit there for a while... sometimes I pour warm water between her legs while she's on potty, my mom told me she did that with us, and it does get her to potty after, I used to run the faucet when we were waiting, but that only made me want to pee lol
With Dean I let him play without a diaper, and when I noticed his *thing* lifting, id run with him to potty, after few times of that he realized what was going on, he started to tell me when he felt his *pee pee* feel diff...
do not put a diaper back on them during the day. Some kids like the "cool alert" so they'll pee and giggle (my daughter did that A LOT from then on she was panties only!) Sing a silly song when they are done and tons and tons of positive reinforcement. I done a chart and if the child could go for x amount of time with out an accident they would get a special treat. I lengthen the amounts time with out an accident while uping the award until they were completely self motivated to go on their own.
My best tips are:
Once you take them out of a diaper or pullup do not put them back in, unless its night time.
No more then 3 min sitting on the toilet (do not use floor potties) but if you do leave it in the bathroom where it belongs.
Keep a small basket in the bathroom with short stories in it (roughly 3 min to read) if child does not go by the time you are done reading, come back and try again in 15 min.
Put them on first thing in the morning.
Every 45 to an hour in the day time. And every 10-15 min after they have eaten and or drank something.
Potty time just before bed and nap time, and if they still wake in the night perfect, put them on in the night as well.
Do not punish for accidents. Its normal part of potty training.
And be consistant, dont give up. Reward if needed (stickers etc....)
Whatever routine you have for home, make sure you use when you go out to the mall etc.....Do not make any acceptions or excuses for reasons why you cant follow it at the mall.
They make fold up seats that fit over the toilet, which are perfect for the mall. Just make sure you bring lots of extra clothes with you.
I potty trained both my kids starting on their first birthday. Both were day and night potty trained by 15 and 16 months old.
