How many words.... ~Manda Panda +3 1/2~ 16 kids; Arkansas 39074 posts

Well more like when do you count it as a word?

When you understand what they mean?
When they use it in the right context?
Or when someone else knows what they're saying?

If I go by the first two, my daughter says
bite, bye-bye, da-da, dog, stop, s'dat?, eye, ear, hair, hi, hello, ow
(all I can remember atm)
But for someone else to understand?
Bye, hi, dat?, dada, bye-bye, ow.
I'm not sure if the others anyone would get what she was saying lol

She's 13.5 months. Anyways, when do you count it?

I would count is as long as I understood it :)

DD is 19m and even though she has a huge vocabulary (stopped counting at over 100 words) her pronounciation isn't perfect and sometimes she mixes up sylables so some people don't know what she means by certain things. Like yogurt is "goya", but yoga is "yoga".

i say when you know they understand what they mean. my sons first official word was momma at around 4 months. he is 6 months now and i know he knows what he is saying only because whenever he says it he looks everywhere for me and when he sees me he will scream momma and lift his arms trying to get me to get him. lol

Ugh my daughter is a turd. If I ask her to say mama....she laughs at me. LOL
No joke. She won't say it. She laughs or growls then laughs lol

Oh I talk to her like that all the time. I always talk. In fact it'd annoy any adult haha. I'm sure that's why the kiddos seem to talk early. She just seems to have a good sense of humor already. She's a COMPLETE daddy's girl. Unless it's bed time or I have food, she'd rather go to him lol

Yeah, the first two. It can take a LONG time for others to understand. I think that doesn't start really "counting" until closer to 3 years old.

I wondered if I was the only one haha.
You know how sometimes you do something and wonder if you're the odd ball?
