Build up. And also make sure you stretch really well and don't push yourself too hard.

Start out with walking. Then jog for short bits (like 30 seconds to a minute) and alternate. The better you get the more will be running. Be careful and increase it SLOWLY. You'll hurt yourself if you do too much too fast.

That sounds better than just going straight to running!
