"For the first time in its nearly 100-year history, Orlando Health is reducing its workforce by up to 400 positions starting immediately, hospital officials announced this morning.

The elimination of 300 to 400 jobs will occur in two phases, and represents a 2- to 3-percent decrease in the system's 16,000 employees, said Orlando Health spokeswoman Kena Lewis. The reductions affect all departments and all eight of its hospitals, including Orlando Regional Medical Center and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

The first wave of employees affected by the "labor expense reduction" portion of the initiative received their notices Friday, said Lewis. The next wave of downsizing will happen after the first of the year."

How many companies do you think will drastically cut worker's hours in order to not have to offer health care? Could this be the beginning of the end of the 40 hour work week? Do you think all of these lay-offs were coming anyway, despite the Obamacare mandate?

I think we are in for a world of hurt.
Thanks Obama!
Now, for all those people whose employers were planning on reducing to 39 hr to avoid Obamacare, they now have their hours reduced to 29 hours.
My dad is one of the dummies thinking "gee, this will be great as people working 35 hours now get coverage,". My dad is a bright guy. I don't understand why people think this way.

I think it's a huge political statement. Workers bust their ass off to make a living for themselves and their families. The least these rich corporations can do is provide them with basic healthcare. Think about it, with healthcare, they will have access to medication and to see a doctor so they can be well to come into work and give quality to their work. It's sad that healthcare is seen as a "want" and not a "need".

Healthcare is a want AND a need...but it is also a SERVICE and services need to be PAID FOR.

People have been screaming that this exact scenario would happen if Obamacare passed and Obama got re-elected. Well, it's happening.

One of Obama's biggest campaign donors just had a massive layoff, citing Obamacare as the reason.

Healthcare is NOT free.

How is healthcare a want? Tell me that? When you're sick, obviously you need to see a doctor. I hate when people can just not have insurance, go to the ER and get care and not pay their bill. well guess who picks up the tab? All those who are insured. My mom works for a major healthcare company, Aetna. She's the accounts receivable manager and is good friends with one of the CFO's at the company. He said they have plenty of money to make sure their employees are being paid plus have insurance, they just don't want to pay. Imagine that, a CFO saying that. It's sick to me. My SO gets health insurance through his job, THANK GOD and he pays a good amount each month to make sure the kids are covered. People aren't asking for FREE healthcare, sorry if you think that. People who work their asses off so that those CEO's and presidents can live the high life and take 10000 vacations a year, deserve to be able to see the doctor and not go broke if they have an illness.

and tell me why layoffs are being made now when the affordable healthcare act doesn't go into full effect until 2014? Don't tell me they're scared. How can you predict shit a couple of days after a man is re elected. It's a political statement and anyone who can't see that needs to get their brain re evaluated.

Actually, there are millions of people who think they are entitled to "free" healthcare.

Because people were hoping Romney would get elected and repeal Obamacare. Now that the election is over and people know that Obamacare is getting shoved down our throats, they're making the layoffs.

It's not rocket science.

Exactly my point. They are greedy. They do not want to take care of the people who work their ass off to make them all the money they are making. They can afford it, they just don't want to. So blame the corporations, not President. smh

64% of Americans think the government should "guarantee" healthcare. What do you think that means?

But where does it say "free"? Because you said "free" healthcare. Just because it's government ran doesn't mean it's necessarily free? and that's in 2009 and from a cbs poll. Does it show who they polled, where from, etc? Oh did you know the majority of people who vote republican get the majority of government subsidies? So what is everyone complaining about? lol
