Changing name Serial Mom ✄ 18 kids; Michigan 2690 posts

So I've been having "namer's remorse" or whatever it's called. We named dd Hailey. I love the name, but I keep thinking about changing it. I just feel like it won't age well as other names. SO says he would consider it. The names we've talked about are Charlotte (Lottie), Alice, and Penelope (Nelly). My aunt says she's too old (5 months) and I'm a weirdo for even thinking it but I figure this is the name she will have for the rest of her life! I just want her to have a fuller professional name. I don't know. Is it too late? I don't know if I'd even do it. It'd be hard/weird getting used to calling her a new name. Am I a f**king weirdo for even thinking it? Need advice cuz I'd have to do it soon if we're gonna do it!

So what happens if you change it, and then in 6 months you decide it was a mistake? I would just keep it the same and not change it.

You're not a weirdo, but Hailey isn't a bad name.

I know someone who change her baby's name from Samantha to Danika at 6months. I think it's weird.

My sister's mom changed her little brothers name at 14 months old. It was Xiavion, but when his dad left at 6 months old she didn't want the name anymore because he picked it and changed it to Elijah.

I think Hailey is a nice name. I have a cousin with that name, and she is 23 years old. It isn't a bad name for aging.

I changed DD's last name to mine when she was 3.5 years old. It was a little hard, since she'd already learned her last name once, but she did just fine :)

I don't think you should change her first name. Not at all. But that's just me.

I think you should go ahead and change it if it is important to you.

I don't think Hailey is terrible. I think it will certainly be a name of this generation and will therefor age with her. I do LOVE your other name choices. Alice is on my list for #2.

Thanks. And I do love Hailey. I guess I've just never met an older Hailey so I feel like it's a kid's name and sounds nickname-ish.

"age well as other names" ?? that's just ridiculous. there are alot of people named Hailey who are adults.....you named her that for a reason.
You say you love the name, so why are you even bothering trying to change your babies name? she's 5months old and im sure by now responds to when you call her name, right? so you're just confusing her.
it's ridiculous. leave her name the way it is.

I do love it. It was so hard for us to pick a name. I wanted Delilah so bad. Or Natalie. He said no. I also wanted Charlotte. He said no but now he says he loves it! WTF?? So why'd he say no? We agreed on Hailey and that was that. I was so damn happy we agreed on something.

I wanted to change Islas name to Delilah when she was about a month old, but I didn't because she already had stuff with Isla on it. And I didn't want to go through the hassle of telling everyone she had a new name.

It's not ridiculous that she feels like she made a mistake. You're being an ass.

OP I thought about changing my daughters name when she was like a month old because I was worried about her thinking that her name was weird. But I kept it the same because I really LOVE her name. If you don't LOVE her name and you want to change it, change it! You should love your baby's name.

It's not ridiculous. Just because adults have that name doesn't mean it ages well. For instance, mine doesn't. I feel my name is a very kiddish name.
