When DD was born she weighed 7lbs 15oz, but her weight was only 7lbs 4oz when we left the hospital. The nurse that discharged us told me not to let her lose any more weight (she was a few oz away from their "cut off" limit.) We have seen her pedi 2 times since leaving the hospital and those times she was 7.8 and 7.10. The day after the appointment that she was weighing 7.10 I had an at home nurse come and she weighed her, and the scale said that she was 7.8 again. And the nurse started scaring me, saying that she should not have lost 2oz in a day.

Well we have an appointment tomorrow morning with her pedi again to weigh her and I am worried that she won't be back up to her birth weight. Does all this jumping around in her weight sound normal?

All babies are different. My daughter was born 6 lb 3 oz, lost an entire pound after her birth, and they never said anything. She was healthy, we took her home 2 days after birth.

Did you have blood sugar issues before you delivered? I did and with our second girl she lost weight in the hospital she was born at 7lbs. 5oz. and then when they weighed her the next day she was at 7.3. they were considering to keep her because her blood sugar wouldn't stay up very well. 2nd day the day we leave..her blood sugar stayed normal after meals. But when we went to pedi her weight was at 7 even. it took 2 weeks for her to get over 8lbs. sometimes its really hard on babies. stay strick to the feeding patteren and try not to over feed because her spitting up wont help. but thats just what happen if our girl at to much.

It took about 4 weeks for my daughter to get back to her birth weight and she was small. My midwife was a bit cocerned, but She came right, she still small 3.5mo and 10lbs but she's gaining what she should.

I didn't have any issues that I know of, and she really isn't spitting up much. I have noticed that while feeding she will fill up her mouth and then just spit it all back out, which is starting to worry me also. If it weren't for all the diapers I would think that she isn't getting enough. But today alone she has eaten almost every hour to every other hour.

they may check her throat to make sure she is swallowing right, but if she is getting dirty diapers then thats a sure sign she is eating. she will get back on track it can just take time. my daughter is still underweight (at 24m she weighed 24lbs. 7oz.) she was for her age group at 2 years old. She eats all the time and loves to snack, pedi thanks she has a high matabilizm, so we just try to keep her balanced. Its not drastic so I suppose weight will always be a worry thing for me, but she got out of the newborn stage and she is healthy so thats what you keep in mind is that is a phase and she will start to get thru it.
