OCD in pregnancy? -POLL- KNZ. 3 kids; Washington 59191 posts

If you have OCD, not what you may think *might* be "OCD-like tendencies" but, OCD,
does it get worse in pregnancy?

Mine has to do with obsessive unwanted thoughts that went from being a few times a day (when i was improving, not pregnant) to now, almost 24/7 again in pregnancy. Back to really effecting my every day life/having a negative impact on it.

Just wondering if anyone else experiences this.
Happened with my last 2 pregnancies too.
(You don't have to share your OCD stuff)

It's pissing me off cos things that were working before to get rid of the thoughts whenever i'd feel 'em coming on, aren't working anymore. And it seems like almost weekly, i have new triggers forming. It's, starting to feel really impossible :?

I have the obsessive thoughts too. No rituals per se, but clutter makes me super anxious. I also have generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, and depression. I'm a hot mess. And add in the pregnancy hormones and not being able to take my meds like normal....holy crap. It's been pretty terrible for me. I can't turn my mind off, especially at night. I've had to take ambien and zoloft. When I'm not pregnant I'm on quite a cocktail to try to help me cope. I also can't stand not being able to have control over my body anymore. I feel like I've been invaded by a bodysnatcher and have no say in anything. I'm almost done thankfully (and this is the last baby I'm having) so I can focus on getting my issues under control.

Mine is just like you said in your OP.

I have obsessive thoughts that something bad will happen to my kids. It keeps me awake every night :( idk how to stop thinking about stuff like that, guess it's just my biggest fear.

Mine are odd and embarrassing
What i hate the most though is how time consuming getting them out of my head is, and now, they come right back. Even like, standing at certain windows in my house trigger me now, it's just, weird. Though i'm not sure there's much that can be done, i plan to talk to the doc about it at my next apt.

Idk how I would ever get rid of the thoughts. DD is in NC right now with her dad and her family and I am going crazy with bad thoughts. Like what if something happens while she's there and the last time I saw her was when she was screaming for me and the airport drop off because she didn't want to go.. ughh :(

It does get worse, especially with your first. Things feel like they may be spiraling out of control with other aspects (since no one has control over their pregnancy) and that make you feel like you cant solve the other problems you may have!

My OCD includes (as if not obvious,by my statement) control and order. I went nuts with my first one. I even had to change delivery rooms because there was a frame that was bolted to the wall slightly crooked. While it aggravates me, now I look back at it and think, "What a weirdo!"

This is my 3rd pregnancy and while I feel like I have a little more control over myself, I can feel myself freak out over the smallest of things (like today I almost ripped my husbands head off because he didnt follow through with something the exact way I said).

It is partially the hormones and partially the loss of control. With people who have OCD, pregnancies can be a very tedious experience. Good luck and try to take a deep breath before you explode in a situation!!

Def worse with pregnancy! I have anxiety ocd and bipolar disorder ( I know I am a party) but it's literally driven me bonkers but im having my baby in 7 days! so hopefully I can get my shiz together. I know you can take meds for it but I just tried to stick it out. on night i REALLY couldn't sleep drs gave me meds and i could take bendryl which usually helped. having a good support system helps a lot luckily my husband knows im crazy and knows how and when to help out. this preg was way more manageable then the last!
