)How young is too young for electronic devices (leappad 2, leapster, devices like that)?

I have been told by some meddling family members that giving my son (he will be 2 1/2 January 7th) the leappad 2 we bought him for his big Christmas gift is "ridiculous, stupid, and a waste of money" since he isn't old enough in their opinion.

Even if he isn't old enough what is the problem getting it now as he could learn how to use it and become old enough for it? I don't understand some people.

I don't think that it too young. DD has been playing games on my phone since before she was 2. We also go her a leap pad for Christmas.

He is old enough. We are going to buy one for LO (shes 3) this year and i wish we would have gotten one for her last year. But i had no idea there even had leappads for kids.

They're wrong. My daughter has been playing games on my iPhone since she was 2, and knew how to perfectly work it. She got a mobigo system for her 3rd birthday and loves it.

I don't think its stupid. It really depends on the kid. My 2.5 year old wouldn't be able to properly use it. My MIL bought Sera a Leapster 2 for Christmas last year when she had just turned 3.

I'm actually thinking about getting my 2 year old some sort of tablet. He can navigate my iPhone and iPad better than he can a Leapster.

I'd say 2.5 years old is a little young for learning the games but I don't really know anything about the leappad. My DD is 4 and has a leapster explorer and she has games for her age range and most of them are too hard for her because they want her to spell 5 letter words

He has been playing with his sister's IXL (a fisher price game they unfortunately do not sell anymore but my DD has had hers for a few years) for the last few months. He understands he has to play gently with "video games" (my DH plays XBox a lot so the kids have started calling it a video game like daddy).

I'd understand if it was an iphone, but it's a leappad.

My 2 year old has been working my iPhone perfectly since he was like 19ish months.

I want my phone back and the leap pad 2s are similar to iPhones lol. He's played with them in store and can work them.

They are for 3 and up. And I got him the 3-4 year old game (the pre-K game).

Andi, they have a downloadable card that's like $20 that you can buy to get more games, also leapster games work on leap pads.
