Counseling payment? ashley + 2 2 kids; Nebraska 1658 posts

Does anyone know if there's a way to get help with paying for counseling? I've gone in the past and it helped me tremendously but it just got too expensive. I really need to go back. Any ideas? I have insurance but I have to pay $25 every time and right now we just can't afford to be paying $200+ a month. My husband just took a pay cut and his insurance is over 3 times what we were paying a month.

I need counseling at least twice a week but since I can't afford that I go once a week. Sometimes you have to cut back. To maybe once a week or once every two weeks. Or go somewhere that has a flex plan where they take your income into consideration.

They take payments but I just hate seeing the bills getting higher and higher. I feel guilty going when I already owe them so much. And I really don't want to find a different therapist because he knows my history and has helped me a lot in the past. I don't want to start all over. I have a hard enough time opening up to anyone.

I used to work for a non profit psych agency in Washington. Try to find the non profit psych services in your state they will usually (not always) take your insurance as well put your copays on a sliding scale. If you have trouble finding one you might try calling the mental hospital in your area and get some referrals.

I understand I would be devastated to have to find a new therapist. There may be help through the state but alot of the time there isn't. Mental health has very low funding.
