Kids on a plane...Safety D&D Mrs. Post-tato Head 4 kids; 1 angel baby; 6789 posts

Ok so now I'm curious. I just made a post asking about the age limit for a "lap child" on an airplane and along with the age I'm getting some negative feedback about allowing my child to ride as a lap child altogether, so now I'm curious as to how many people feel this way, so what's your take on the matter? Would you allow a lap child? Up to what age? Would buy your kid a seat? Would you allow them to ride in the seat by themselves or would you make them ride in their carseat? I'm just curious as to how everyone else feels.

We've done a family vacation every year since my oldest was 7 months old, so he was a lap child the first year, he sat in his own seat at 19 months without a carseat the second year and our 9 month old was a lap child, and last year my oldest at 3 years had his own seat, no carseat, my middle child had her own seat at 2 years, no carseat, and my youngest was a lap child at 1 1/2 years, so I have no qualms about having a lap child or allowing them to travel in an airplane without a carseat.

And also, if you give your "opinion", but have never traveled with children on an airplane, say so. I want to know who all is saying what they "would" do vs what they HAVE done.

I've had my kids as lap kids up until about...2? I think?

No carseats, ever.

Never had a problem, but for long flights getting them a seat was easier for everyone. I've also never been on a flight with super uber mega turbulence-ever. I've flown a lot, too. Maybe I'm lucky.

Ive always had them on my lap as long as they were riding free after that they sat in their own seat usually 2 years old and over...and no i didnt put them in a car seat, just brought the carseat in the luggage though.

My youngest baby is the only one that has ever been on a plane. He was around 8 months and he sat on my lap. Me another mama and her child went to Texas for a due date BG meet up and her little girl sat on her lap as well.

Up until a year ago I had never heard of kids in car seats on planes. My mom took me to the states every year from birth until I was 17, as a lap child when I was under 2. Maybe for a domestic flight, but what toddler would want to sit in a car seat for a 9 hour transatlantic flight?

Id say! Every flight I have been on has had HORRID turbulence.

Never have flown with kids but when we move across country and if we decide to fly, we will be putting our children in their car seats.
Bad things can happen on airplanes in cases of turbulence and I'm not willing to take that risk.

If you can't afford to purchase an extra seat/s for your kids, then you need to find an alternate way of travel, or not travel at all.

That's what I say, but then moms are bringing up "turbulence" etc., which happens, but I mean, it's not that hard to hold on to your kid... It's not any different than holding on to your kid on a little train ride or hay ride or something.

Storing a seat with luggage considers the seat crashed.

I hit turbulence on a flight to Hawaii when I was like 14 and got smashed into the side of the plane wall. Scariest moment of my life.

But you can lose a grip with turbulence.

So have you ever flown at all or just not with kids? Have you ever experienced turbulence?

That's never once happened to me. Not even on international flights. I'm a good luck charm, maybe.
