I was a coke head. Never would I have let anyone sterilize me for an 8 ball.

Plenty of people decide after getting sterilized that they want children regardless of what lead to them being sterilized.
They can lead happy, productive lives without having children and always have the option to adopt.

I could see long term birth control like Implanon, but I think sterilization is going too far.

Word, me too.

Plus it's not like they're forcing it, if you want a high bad enough to sterilize yourself, it's gonna be a long ass time before you're ready to have babies.

People care too much about junkies IMO.

And plenty of kids are born addicted , abused , neglected and sent to foster care bc people don't overcome their addictions. It's not worth it.

Even if they do overcome their addictions, so many kids are born addicted to crack or with lifelong illnesses. Makes me give no f**ks about the "rights" of crackheads.

And those same kids who are born addicted sometimes have issues. One of my sisters babies was born at 33 weeks and her first baby who is now 8 has serious anger problems which the doctors think is probably linked to him being born addicted to heroin and cocaine. My sisters drugs of choice.

:( DH's second cousin's three kids were all born addicted to shit. They all have minor medical problems, developmental delays, and behavior disorders that are likely caused from her doing drugs.

Honestly? I really don't give a shit. They're not being forced, they're being given incentive which they could easily turn down. And they're not in a sound mind to make that choice? Then they're not in a sound mind to raise a child. I'd much rather some junkie throw away their chances of ever having a child than to bring a child into the world that is born with complications, addicted, and who may possibly end up in the system.

3 friends of mine, sisters, grew up knowing there mother was a prostitute. Although their mother is now clean and has been for 3 years, they're now 25 and spent majority of their lives in foster care. My childhood best friend also knew her mother was a "crack wh**e". Many nights, when her grandmother would kick her mom out for coming back "too fucked up", her mother would bang on the window, crying, sobbing for us to let her in. She was found dead last year, she overdosed on her couch. A friend of my family had a little boy 3 years ago, he was born addicted and premature, and died shortly after he was allowed to come home and the mother got clean.

I'm sure there are plenty of happy stories where an addict is living a clean and sober life with a happy and healthy family, but that still doesn't change my mind. They're not being forced, I wish that every addict could be helped, but if not then I'm okay with them accepting money to be sterilized by their choice.

I don't think it's wrong, But Drug addicts can overcome their addiction. Doesn't it cost alot to get the procedure reversed, though?

Plenty of non addictive parents also beat the living shit out of the kids, or molest them, or verbally abuse them. Doing drugs =/= you will be a shitty parent. And not doing them =/= being a good one.

My best friend has addiction issues she struggles with daily, and is one of the best mothers I have seen. My aunt is a teetotaler bible thumper who hasn't drank/smoked/done drugs in her entire life and is one of the worst emotionally abusive human beings I have ever seen. You can't make sweeping judgements on the fact people should not have kids because they have certain issues. Hell if that was the case, than most of humanity would not be having any.
