You're 6 year old looks ridiculous in car seat now, but I'm sure she'd change her mind if that car seat ever saved their life. My daughter is 3 1/2 and my mom bought her a high back booster and is mad because I won't use anything that isn't a 5 pt harness.

Youtube it and show her videos, might change her mind.

I'm kind of a single parent right now while DH is deployed and my mom always says shit like dont shake the baby, just walk away for a breather.

Ugh, no shit mom...I've never shaken a baby. I kind of wish she'd just make stupid comments like car seat stuff.

My mom has made me crazy. Luckily she's 3000 miles away and basically never has him and never without me in a car, ever.

She swears babies and toddlers of all ages are SAFER in their mothers' arms than ANY carseat! She's NUTS

Until you hit something and that baby flies out of their arms. :(

Yeah, i can just imagine how things would have been if my dad was still alive. She's done it for my other 2 kids too and she'd sneak a bite of cookie or something like that to my DS when he was a couple of months old until i caught her and let her have it.

That would piss me off SO bad.

Once when DD was like two weeks old, I was super sleep deprived because DH wasn't helping much (he had just got a new job) and I said, "I can't handle this." She like snatched DD and went into the other room and started crying.. I was like uhh wow. It made me feel like an idiot and I didn't really mean it. I just said it out of pure frustration.

It wouldn't make a difference, once she has something in her head it can't be changed. She's still living back in the old days where women kept up with the home and men worked, women pleased their husband and the husband came before the kids, children are to be seen not heard etc.

She just rolls her eyes when I say that. and she says "I've never been in a car accident before, I doubt it will happen with (DS) in the car!"
And he doesn't look ridiculous, he looks safe. He's six but he still fits his five point harness so he's in it. He's almost grown out of it, and when he does we a nice high back booster waiting for him that she got him when he turned 3. No way was my three year old going in one of those.

I wouldn't be able to feel that way, she asked me why the house wasn't spotless while all of us were sick and why i wasn't tending to DH and i just laughed. I'm not about to bend over backwards for my DH when i feel like shit too.

My mom used to, kind of.

SO's parents did/do. Well, his mom anyway. She still always says "she just looks so uncomfortable, it's probably hurting her."

But, she's well aware that if they do not listen they will lose their day they have with her.

I feel so dumb asking this but..... what is the picture telling us? Are children not suppose to have coats/outwear on in a car seat?

No puffy winter jackets.
Fleece and sherpa are safe alternatives, though.
I got my daughter a fleece body suit with a fleece sack on it at JCPenney for the car seat.
