Quoting Creeper Is A Dude!!!:" Yup, we have direct flights to PA out of IAH...which is great when flying with kids. Plus, better weather than SA and beaches."

I hate flying internationally and having to layover. Hate, hate, hate it because 99.9% of the time I'm traveling, I'm doing it with 3 kids. That's a big plus and beaches....I'm like SOLD.

I could get some great Trinidadian food there too and be less homesick. Should be a no brainer..

Quoting Creeper Is A Dude!!!:" Great Gatsby was meh. The acting was good, the scenery was over the top, and the story was what I remember. ... [snip!] ... it was like an observation about upperclass white society seeming to adopt black music while not accepting the black person."

I love how they did the soundtrack.
When I first saw the previews I felt very  about the music, but it fit so well. The entire thing was an incredibly modern version of the story. The costumes, hair, and makeup weren't historically accurate either, but it all had that jazz age aesthetic, just pulled through a 2013 filter. No complaints here. It would have been a bore if they hadn't dusted the whole thing off and shaken it up a bit.

When I read the book years ago, I hated all the characters. I thought he was a psycho and she was an idiot. And after almost 24 hours of processing, I still feel that way...but they were brought to life in such an endearing way in this film. I was so distracted by the pretty lights and the energy of the way the story was told that I didn't even stop to think about how fucked up they all were until it was over.

idk man. It pulled me in pretty hard, in a way that I wasn't even capable of being pulled in when I did my first round of Gatsby as a teenager. Those main characters are facets of all of us, and I love it when a storyteller can do that.

Quoting Creeper Is A Dude!!!:" Maybe because it was kinda forced on me, I'm projecting some animosity towards the movie. I will say, the woman playing Jordan was much prettier than the one playing Daisy "

Yes, Jordan was gorgeous.
Daisy too, but her character wasn't necessarily supposed to be beautiful. I think the casting was spot on, and that surprises me too because I think Lemonado DiCappucino is a toolface. He was perfect though.

And I loved the makeup. I don't usually pay that much attention to makeup, but it was so beautifully done.

So you didn't want to go and got dragged along? Did your wife enjoy it?
