She didn't like my sons name either, he's named after his father.
Eugene John Cappuccetti IV, he goes by Gino or Gene. She calls him "Little G".

I want to name our daughter Genesis. She hates it. She wants her name to be Grace or Olivia or Crystal...and since she hates the name, she said she will just call her whatever her personality shows her...which means she'll do anything she can to not call either of my children by their names. I don't mind nicknames, I've given Gino a million cute little nicknames...but to not call them by their names JUST because you don't like them offends me a little.

I LOVE Genesis! And tell her if she can't call your kids by their name, she doesn't need to see them.

Ok sounds horrible but does your mom have a nickname she hates. Show her about the hurt in not identifying someone the way they wish to be identified.

Thank you for making me feel better about it ladies. I want her approval, but it seems as though that just isn't going to happen. She doesn't really have any nicknames she doesn't like that I could use against her, but that reminds me of when my teacher NEVER pronounced my name right in school, so to help him understand my frustration of him saying it wrong I started saying his name wrong. He didn't like that so much and started saying my name right.

I think Eugene is adorable. I'm not a fan of Genesis, but it's YOUR kid so that should have no bearing on your decision! And tbh, as long as it has no apostrophes in it it's better than a lot of names I see these days, lmao.

Name your baby whatever name you think will fit them that you love. That is all that matters. My in laws hate DD's name and never shut up about it. But it's fine because I love her name even more every time I hear it. I'm sure you will experience the same thing!

Genesis isn't my style but either way, that doesn't matter. Nor does your mom's opinion. I had people say 'Ew, Felix? I don't like that. Don't use it.' It irritates me lile crazy when people who aren't the parents of the baby think they get a say in naming them. I've never felt that way when someone announces their kid's name. :/
