Just read an article bout boosting milk production. 1. Eat oatmeal, oatmeal cookies, granola, oatmeal banana muffin, 2. Wear right bra so it doesn't create plugged ducts, 3. Nurse often, 4. Lose pacifier and comfort nurse to stimulate breasts to make more, 5. Avoid hormonal birth control opt for condoms or mini pill or non hormonal IUDs, 6. Switch sides during one session, 7. Pump after nursing, 8. Nurse thru growth spurts try not to supplement w formula, 8. All else fails take a nursing vacation where u lay in bed all day or weekend and nurse round the clock.

Foods to boost lactation: 1. Water, 2. Lactation cookies, 3. Oatmeal, 4. Garlic, 5. Carrots, 6. Fennel, 7. Nuts- almonds, cashews, macadamian, 8.unripened papaya, 9. Sesame seeds, 10. Ginger.

Hope some of that helps! I snack during and after each session on a chewy fruit granola bar. It has oats, almonds, sunflower seeds, cranberry, rice crispies etc in it. I also chow down on mountain trail mix- m&ms, almonds, cashews, peanuts, raisins. In the morning I have a bowl of oatmeal. I drink several bottles of water that I add flavor packets to. Several glasses of cranberry apple juice as well. I still love my fast food here n there w some cola. I love cakes and sweets too. I try not to stress bc that also leads to drying up. Anything else u nursing mamas do to keep the supply going?

i probably consume everything on that list lol, i make sure to eat often, drink at least 10 bottles of water a day and throughout the night. im always hydrating. I feed on demand. When he wants it he gets it, if he starts lip smacking, moving around a lot, searching, anything to show me he is hungry even if its only been 30 mins since his last feeding i give him boobie. I do not suppliment at all. I plan to feed for at least 8 months. I nursed my first for 12 months and my second for 19months. I am completely pro breastfeeding. So if u ladies are struggling i really hope you stick it out. Some woman dont create enough milk tho and your babies health is most important. Someone i know right now has a 4 month old that weights under 9lbs and was born 7lbs. He is skin and bones and she refuses to suppliment. she has implants and i believe she is not making enough. Every time i see him he looks hungry, sucks on his hands and wont stop moving. I just want to put him on my breast! But i know she would smack me. :(

That's how dd1 was. Born 8 lbs was 7 at 3 months. She was always hungry even after feeding for an hour at each breast. The stupid pedis told us she was healthy bc shed gain a few ozs then lose it then gain, lose, gain, etc. I hate her pics from that time. She's so damn pale and skinny. I didn't know though we saw 3 diff pedis who told us she was fine. That's my worst mom moment to date I think. I feel bad for that kid but I can't judge ur friend :( supplementing until I dried up was heartbreaking. After I dried up at 6 months I still would put her to breast hoping to magically make enough.

i advised her to try pumping to measure the amount she was producing to be sure that her supply was sufficient. I dont know that she will listen. She isnt the most "attentive" mother. I kept telling her, my mommy instincts and all, he looks hungry and she was like, let me see if i can just calm him and she kept rocking him and pacifier till he fell back asleep. I was like poor baby. Feed him. If he wants it. My lil man is half his age and twice his size. :( she said "he is skinny because he is breastfed." im like all my kids were fat little turds so that is inaccurate. Its a really touchy situation and hurts me to see him. He really does appear malnurished and she says she isnt worried he is just her little guy. Id be so scared if my baby wasnt gaining anything. I just pray to god that he really is just petite and that he starts gaining soon, or she realized he is not getting enough. She gets mad because he is a "fidgety feeder" but IMO that is just a result of him not getting sufficient milk and getting frustrated.

I EBF, but how do you know when the baby decides to wean themselves especially before one year? What does the baby do? Do you then have to give formula?

Dd2 wouldn't latch all of a sudden. She would push the breast away, turn her head, spit the nipple out. I had to call wic and get an emergency thing of formula. Tg they had some cans. I kept trying for weeks and she wouldn't latch. I had to give her formula bc she wouldn't suckle no more.

Well after looking in five different stores, I FINALLY found the Fenugreek at CVS. It says to take two pills two to three times a day.. should I not take that many? I've been taking two pills two times a day but it doesn't seem to be helping me produce more than I normally do. :( I guess I'm gonna try to find that brewers yeast and make those cookies and try whatever else I can (I'm eating a bowl of oatmeal as I type this lol).

For fenugreek to work u need to take a lot of it like it says. And ur gonna smell like maple syrup esp when ya sweat. At least I did.

Awesome, I'll be taking two of em three times a day. :) I just wasn't sure if that was okay for breastfeeding mamas since technically the pills aren't made JUST to help breastfeeding moms. I forgot to take them this morning though and didn't take them to work with me. :? Grr.

I take the fenugreek still everyday along with oatmeal and lots of water..since my milk didn't come in until 9 days pp my Dr gave me formula to supplement. I only supplemented 1oz every feeding, then once my milk came in I threw the formula out and basically nursed all day everyday and I believe that's what helped establish my supply.

I think I screwed myself with the pumping. My breasts were so engorged, just the thought of pumping and them producing more made me cringe so I wouldn't pump as often as I should have because I didn't want them to keep producing so much, but now I'm not producing nearly as much as she needs. :( Another reason I wouldn't pump was because at the time I only had a few bottles to store milk in and didn't have any bags to freeze them in, so I just wouldn't. I definitely regret it now, but I've been taking the Fenugreek and I'm going to try to find that brewers yeast to make the cookies and I'll try to eat oatmeal every morning.. I had some this morning and am now eating oatmeal cookies as I type this lol.

Question for anyone who pumps...

How much can you pump in one sitting?

I pump once or twice a day and can only get about 3oz total... She is three weeks today and eats about every two hours. I am wondering if this is a normal amount or if I should try and increase my milk supply.

I already have an over active letdown which is painful.
