I just purchased a Nikon D5100 and am wanting to do newborn photography with it. I also purchase Photoshop Elements 11 and was wondering if anyone knows anything about this program and will it be good enough to use for professional photography??

You won't really be able to do legitimate professional photography with a 550$ dollar camera alone...what lighting equipment do you have?

I know a few people who use Photoshop Elements, and they like it.

Not to be rude, so please don't take it that way...but do you know how to use your camera? And I don't mean by putting it on Auto and taking photos, but do you have an actual understanding of exposure, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO? Do you know how to use your camera in manual mode? If not, you might want to learn all that stuff first before you start trying to do professional photography. Learning all of that stuff will make you a much better photographer, and it will allow you to take much better photos, that won't need as much editing.

Also, if you want to do newborn photography, make sure you read up on newborn safety. A lot of those cute poses(froggy pose for example) or photos of babies hanging in slings, etc, are composite photos.

There is a photography thread on BG if you'd like to join it. The ladies there are awesome and very helpful! I've learned a lot from them!

You don't need lighting equipment to do professional photography.

That's not true at all! Lol. If you know how to work it, it's very much possible.
