Didn't she leave her in a dumpster though? Is that the same as handing the infant over to authorities ?

How is leaving your baby by a dumpster handing a baby over to a safe person? What? And why is the limit 72 hrs? We don't have that limit here....and frankly I don't know why you would have a 72 hr limit. If someone wants to hand a baby off because they aren't going to care for it - they should be able to at any time rather than risk what else they could do. I am HOPING these people are mentally challenged or have some reason for doing soemthing so wrong.

I hope that was just part of the explanation of the safe haven law and not about the parents in this case

I think it means, the parents will not be prosecuted if the baby is unharmed when they leave it at a hospital or fire station.

Right - like maybe a PSA reminder...like "Hey people - no need to leave your baby out by the trash, you can easily take it to the firestation with no worries & avoid a criminal investigation!". Let's hope that is what they meant.
