I didn't get one this year and neither did my baby. I got the flu and was miserable. It was worse than being pregnant, fever of 1041+, up ALL night. Next year I will be getting a flu shot.

I have never been vaxed for it and never had the flu.

My daughter hasn't been and this one won't be either.

I don't get it because whenever I do get the flu (rarely) it's not even that bad.

She most likely already had a compromised immune system and died from complications of the flu rather than the flu itself.

I've gotten it for the last 3 years and I've never had any side effects. DD and DH also get it because if DD were to get the flu, it could be very bad and we're not willing to take the risk.

we usually get it, but this year we just haven't had the time.
now dd has had the flu all week. her pedi actually admitted that the vaccine is a joke this year; it doesn't vax against the mutated strains that are already going around.

That's what happens and you will see it more and more with different viruses/bacteria. They evolve and are not susceptible to the vaccine or antibiotics anymore. That's why you are starting to see antibiotic resistant bacteria and why we rarely give medication around our house.

i know. scary.
her pedi is very pro-vax, so her honesty about the flu shot surprised me.

Exactly this.

The flu, itself, doesn't kill people. Most people who get it can fight it off and recover. Problem is, people with compromised immunity can end up with a secondary infection such as pneumonia. Again, with a compromised immune system, the pneumonia could very well kill someone.

Quoting That Girl.:" Who all here gets a flu shot? Why do you get it? Why don't you? I'm just curious because right at the beginning of flu season a teenage girl passed away and it has been linked to influenza."

I have never gotten the flu shot in my life.
My husband use to not, but now he has to since he's in the military and they make him.
My son doesn't get the flu shot either. I'm a stay at home mom.. he's not around tons and tons of kids and we eat super healthy. Also, I have known people who have gotten sick FROM the flu shot itself..My son and I had the flu last year. It lasted a day or 2 and it was over. Built up are immune systems :)

I do because my job requires it barring any allergies.
