I've actually heard good things about The Sleeping Beauty series.

I dislike 50 Shades of Grey's portrayal of the b**m community in the same way that I despise Twilight's idea of romance.

b**m couples have a strong, solid relationship built on trust, acceptance, and most importantly for the couples, aftercare for the bottom or the sub. Shades is a disgrace to people that actually participate in this lifestyle.

I see the point you're trying to make, though. Just because you're a fan of a certain series or book, that doesn't make EVERYTHING you write fanfiction based on that particular series or book. The two are not synonymous. Only if you wrote something using Katniss and Peeta could it be called Hunger Games fanfiction.

"wow" why yes I am...education never hurt anyone. And yeah you could write fanfiction about anything your little heart desires.

The Sleeping Beauty series is intense. My fiance had me read the first book when we first started dating. I found there were certain things I could accept and would probably do, but some of it was "Hell to the no". LOL

You're ignorant. I've written and read fanfiction since I was in elementary school. Being a fan of something doesn't make a work of fiction you've written with characters, settings, and scenarios that are completely different from the story you're a fan of a fanfiction in the least.

Quoting Chroma Hex [+1]:" But Shades, in it's state, isn't Twilight fanfiction. It has nothing to do with any of the characters or settings in the story, as far as I've been told. "

No, it doesn't. At all. It only resembles Twilight in that Anastasia's happiness is 100% dependent on pleasing Christian Grey. Almost like she can't be happy unless she's doing things he wants her to do. Controlling in more ways than just sex. And in Twilight, it was the same thing with Bella...her happiness was 100% dependent on being around Edward and he was very controlling as well.

OH and what I didn't like was that the author of 50 Shades basically implies that Doms are dominant and feel the need to control because somewhere in their lives they had no control. Chrisitan Grey was abused as a child and so he hurts, humiliates, abuses, and controls women.

Sadly, that is a personality flaw that can come out of any lack of/bad relationship in childhood.

Most doms however are TRAINED to treat their partners well. It's a really big community, almost family thing. There is a big difference between fetishist pain and domestic/sexual abuse, and the line just gets thinner the more popular this series gets.

Exactly. The more ignorance is perpetuated, the more people will become involved in b**m just so they have an "excuse" to abuse their partner because they think that's what it's all about. I honestly think the "Beauty" series portrays it much better.

Probably because the characters are pretty much the exact same-and it's just as shittily written.

which didn't stop me from reading the whole thing. I kept expecting them to get better...nope.
