Quoting grace life:" Gotcha. That'd be a great thing to do, but I don't know how to get it started either. Something like a "Big Brother, Big Sister" organization? Not sure if you guys have that there. "

Random, but my great uncle was one of the (silent) founders of BB/BS.
Really super interesting life story there. For another time though.

Thanks. I have left two messages with friends, so we'll see. The last thing I want to do is ask my sister again.

That's awesome. Starting an organization is so hard, well...starting it is easy, keeping it going is hard. DH's nonprofit can be slow moving sometimes.

Quoting kthx.:" Yeah he knows how I feel. Every time I said something, he had an excuse for it. The breastfeeding thing ... [snip!] ... if I do get pregnant before that time comes, he'll realize that he wants to do this on our own. Fingers crossed for that "

Before you get pregnant, or buy a house, or form any other kind of major commitment, you two need to straighten some shit out.

It sounds like he's not putting you before his mom, and i'm not saying he's putting his mom before you, but you need to make sure you're #1 in his life. Not his mom, not him. YOU.

I'd threaten to call it quits if my husband ever put someone else before me when we're trying to start a family and grow together.

My uncle narrowly escaped the Holocaust, then narrowly survived WW2, then ended up the president (or vp? I forget) of the company that owned NBC in the 1950's and 60's, and spent almost his entire fortune on helping kids.

Super incredibly fascinating guy. I miss him terribly. He was beyond words. Every time I went to LA as a kid, we'd be out at some restaurant and celebrities would go out of their way to come over and say hi. It was crazy. He wasn't "household name famous" but everybody who worked in tv for decades knew who he was.
